Continue ReadingThe Tour of Texas is one of the most prestigious series of tournaments in the nation simply due to the quality of teams that compete it in. What makes it amazing is the fact that every team had to qualify for it. No matter how you shake it, every team earned their place by competing either by last year’s results or this year’s Tour Qualifier. Then they prove themselves through the series of stops to show that it was no fluke. Which brings us to this past weekend’s Tour Finals stop. We are going to write a series of articles highlighting both individual and team achievements from what we were able to witness. Both Guillerme Torres and myself were in attendance with over 50 college coaches to watch some incredible match-ups. This article will recognize some players who stood out with their play in all age groups and forced me to add them to my watch. We will keep our eye on them and see if they can continue their amazing play and be added to our prestigious State Rankings.
Kitana Tuufuli [2023] 6-1 Outside (HS: Steele/Club: SA Magic/Verbal: Uncommitted)
Kitana is currently an unranked prospect in the 2023 Class according to our Prep Dig State Rankings, but has played her way into my watch list for sure. She plays high school volleyball at Steele High School and club for San Antonio Magic volleyball club. This is the third time I have seen her now this season and she has wowed me every single time. She is a very calm player that looks very relaxed on the court like she has been there before. This is definitely due to the fact that she has been playing up in age groups for a majority of her young junior club career. I love how she is ready to bang on any ball near her zone. She can really bring the heat with her attacks. She more than doubled her kill total from her sophomore season to her junior season at Steele and will likely be the “go to” hitter for them during her senior season. She is surrounded by a great cast of players on her club team and has a fantastic setter to feed her. But, she is one of their primary weapons on offense and had many college coaches turning their heads this past weekend. We will for sure be watching her progress for the rest of this club season. Stay tuned to our next update to see where she falls on our State Rankings.
Skylar Skrabanek [2024] 6-1 Outside/Right Side (HS: Tompkins/Club: TAV Houston/Verbal: Uncommitted)
Skylar is currently an unranked prospect in the 2024 class according to our Prep Dig State Rankings, but showed a lot of promise and made my watch list for our next update. Miss Skrabanek stars at Tompkins High School. We just wrote the following on her last night but added her to this list also because she is that good. Here is what we stated, “This lengthy pin can hit at either side of the net with power. She is a great prospect for the next level due to her frame and natural power. She has an absolute whip of an arm that wows you when she unleashes it. I love her footwork as she transitions to her touch point and also when she closes her approach to the ball. Sky can turn on the ball and paint the line with the best of them. She is even a viable offensive threat out of the back row too. We think she has a very high ceiling and can’t wait for our next Rankings update.” One item that I really wanted to add about her is how high she contacts the ball. It truly is at the peak of her touch and this will help her stay consistent as an offensive weapon against anyone. She will for sure be on it so stay tuned to see where she falls.
Kennedi Rogers [2025] 5-10 Outside (HS: Ridge Point/Club: Houston Juniors / Verbal: Uncommitted)
Kennedi is currently an unranked prospect in the state according to the 2025 Prep Dig State Rankings, but I wrote her a ton of notes on her with what I saw in person at the Tour Finals this past weekend. She plays on the pins for Ridge Point High School and also for the famed Houston Juniors club program. While her team was gong back and forth with some amazing competition in the power pool, Miss Rogers was extremely steady for her squad. She has a very calming presence about her during some tough chaotic times. This youngster packs some serious power in that right arm in both serving and attacking. It is very easy to think that she is just a skilled attacker, but don’t sleep on her defense as I loved watching her footwork in the back row and willingness to dig some hard driven balls. She has great court vision and will be a stud for many years. Add this name to your list of players to recruit. I really enjoyed watching her play and will be adding her to my watch list to potentially add to the State Rankings. Stay tuned for more on Miss Rogers.
