Continue ReadingThe Tour of Texas is one of the most prestigious series of tournaments in the nation simply due to the quality of teams that compete it in. What makes it amazing is the fact that every team had to qualify for it. No matter how you shake it, every team earned their place by competing either by last year’s results or this year’s Tour Qualifier. Then they prove themselves through the series of stops to show that it was no fluke. Which brings us to this past weekend’s Tour Finals stop. We are going to write a series of articles highlighting both individual and team achievements from what we were able to witness. Both Guillerme Torres and myself were in attendance with over 50 college coaches to watch some incredible match-ups. This article will recognize some players who stood out with their play in all age groups and forced me to add them to my watch list for the State Rankings.
Jordan Taylor [2025] 6-4 Middle (HS: Langham Creek/Club: Houston Juniors /Verbal: Uncommitted)
Jordan is currently an unranked prospect in the 2025 Class according to our Prep Dig State Rankings, but is on my watch list to add at our next update in a few months. She plays high school volleyball at Langham Creek and club for Houston Juniors volleyball club. This lengthy middle is a show-stopper at times for her squad. While most will marvel at her size and power, I was very intrigued by her hand contact and ability to move the ball around a block with power. She is a very formidable blocker and can be a shut down stopper in a one on one situation. This youngster has a lot of upside and will be a super force once the staff at HJV works on her technique. She is already on most colleges radars due to her size, but has the potential to be one of the best players in the age group in a few years if she continues to progress. Stay tuned to our next update to see where she falls on our State Rankings.
Kaia Thiele [2025] 5-7 Setter (HS: Cornerstone Christian/Club: Alamo/ Verbal: Uncommitted)
Kaia is currently an unranked prospect in the state according to the 2025 Prep Dig State Rankings, but due to her play, she has for sure made it onto my watch list. She is the next great setter to come out of Cornerstone Christian school and runs the show for her Alamo squad. The ball comes out of her hands very smoothly and she moves it around to a bevy of hitters equally well. I love how she can work pin to pin keeping the defense guessing. This is an overlooked aspect of offenses at this age group and Alamo has Miss Thiele to thank for her abilities. A very good part of her game that most won’t see is her phenomenal defense she plays out of the right back position. Stay tuned for more on Kaia as we think she has tons of promise. We cannot wait to update the rankings and see where she falls.
Brooklyn Vigil [2025] 5-6 Libero (HS: Harlan/Club: Alamo/Verbal: Uncommitted)
Brooklyn is currently an unranked prospect in the 2024 class according to our Prep Dig State Rankings, but showed a lot of promise and made my watch list for our next update. Miss Vigil stars at Harlan High School. She played lights out for Alamo while stopping some of the best attackers in the nation. The missiles that were coming her way all weekend were met with a soft platform that redirected them to her setter and put her team in a strong position to score. I loved how agile she was while contorting her body during each dig that was outside of her body. This kind of body control shows just how athletic she is in the position. She was talking to her whole team during serve receive and in between plays. I think she has what it takes to not only make the Rankings, but to move up eventually if she keeps up her progress. Stay tuned for more on Miss Vigil.
