As the club season approaches its end for the 2022 recruiting class, college play is right around the corner.

Michigan put a number of big names into college programs around the country this year, but it’s once again the in-state universities that gobbled up the biggest core of talent.

Here’s a look at which college programs are set to benefit the most from Michigan’s 2022 prospects.

Michigan State

No surprise to see the Spartans getting some of the top names in the state once again. Despite a change in coach, MSU is bringing in [player_tooltip player_id="24871" first="Maradith" last="O’Gorman"] and Evie Doezema, two Miss Volleyball finalists. Both are also long and powerful hitters that can already compete at the Division 1 level in terms of their athleticism and velocity. [player_tooltip player_id="24871" first="Maradith" last="O’Gorman"] rejoins her sister, Aubrey O’Gorman, who will be a redshirt freshman next season. MSU already has six in-state players on their roster, now beefs up to eight in their hopes to bounce back in the Big Ten race next year.

Michigan

Michigan added just two in the recruiting period, but one was [player_tooltip player_id="24870" first="Serena" last="Nyambio"], one of the most dynamic middles in the entire nation. She joins a Wolverines’ roster that already has five former Michigan prep talents. Coming off a NCAA Tournament appearance in 2021, Michigan gets even more athletic at the net with Nyambio. She’s competed at the national level away from high school for years and still has a high ceiling.

Oakland

The Grizzlies added some big size in middle [player_tooltip player_id="60840" first="Anika" last="Prisby"], and one of the most consistent liberos in Michigan in [player_tooltip player_id="24838" first="Lyse" last="Bates"]. With Oakland graduating its All-Time digs leader, it’s going to open the door for new players to step up in the years to come. Bates has the work ethic and skillset to be one of those players. Prisby immediately jumps to being the tallest player on the Oakland roster. Now, with D1 coaching day-in and day-out, it should make her a real force in the Horizon League.

Ferris State

The Bulldogs continue to really hit the state hard and add to an already young roster with the likes of setter [player_tooltip player_id="24875" first="Karlee" last="Stoll"], libero [player_tooltip player_id="137574" first="Alina" last="Anderson"] and outside [player_tooltip player_id="24862" first="Morgan" last="Lockhart"]. This is a great trio of talent from the state, all competing to be among the best at their position in Michigan. Energy and athleticism is high for all three as well, which should help Ferris push for another deep run in the NCAA Division II Tournament.

Honorable Mention: The ACC

Michigan hasn’t had a huge pipeline to ACC programs in the past, but things are definitely changing for 2022. [player_tooltip player_id="24846" first="Ava" last="Brizard"], the Miss Volleyball winner, is heading to N.C. State to give the Wolfpack the most complete player in the state. [player_tooltip player_id="24851" first="Brooklyn" last="Conner"], a towering middle that has the skills to play on the outside as well, is joining the Clemson Tigers. The state’s top defender, [player_tooltip player_id="24842" first="Josie" last="Bloom"], is making her way to Virginia Tech where she will add her persistence and court IQ to the back row. [player_tooltip player_id="24881" first="Sydney" last="Tomlak"], an experienced six-rotation outside from Stoney Creek, is on her way to Duke. All four of these talents have the ability to succeed, and their succession can really open up the doors for future prospects.
