Continue ReadingThe Art of Coaching Volleyball kicked off this past weekend by holding a Talent ID Clinic before teams competed in the JVA World Challenge in Louisville, Kentucky. There were a lot of outstanding pin hitters but here are a few that caught my attention.
Pin Hitters:
Morgan Jones Morgan Jones 6'1" | OH Huntley | 2024 State #116 Nation IL – 2024 – 5’10 – Right Side Hitter – Crystal Lake South (IL) – Adversity G16 Adidas
Jones is very athletic and her approach touch has got to be around the 10 ft marker. She is long and dynamic at the net and smooth moving on defense. Jones is focused and hard to miss because of her outstanding athletic ability.
Lindsey Whitehouse – 2022 – Pin Hitter – Shelby County (KY) – MAVA Adidas 18-Elite
Whitehouse was taking big approaches, swinging hard around the block, and blasting the line with ease at the Clinic. You could tell even before they got into 6v6 that she is an aggressive competitor. Every movement for Whitehouse was fluent and purposeful.
Great 6v6 happening at the @ArtofCoachingVB with lots of players standing out
#141 Lindsey Whitehouse – 2022 – Pin Hitter
#140 Alexandria Patch – 2022 – Right Side Hitter
#51 Adriana Lane – 2023 – Libero @TeamDVBC
#163 Morgan Jones – 2024 – Outside Hitter pic.twitter.com/xsz3lH98Ub— Breit Nelson (@BreitNelson) April 7, 2022
Alexandria Patch – 2022 – Pin Hitter – Plainfield Central (IL) – RVC
Patch puts up a really big block on the right side. Offensively she has a high contact point and booming swing to go along with her deep cross-corner shot. When Patch goes to the service line, she does a really nice job working the seams.
Lauren Buchanan – 2025 – Pin Hitter – Chelsea (AL) – Alabama Performance 15 Red
Buchanan is a very active player whether she is front row or back row, and when she goes back to serve, you better watch out because she will probably go on a run. She will definitely be a threat with her consistently powerful swing and the fact that she still has time to perfect her game. Buchanan caught my eye and she’s still just a freshman, so she is definitely one to keep an eye on.
Alexis Strong Alexis Strong 6'1" | OH Assumption | 2023 State KY – 2023 – 6’1 – Pin Hitter – Assumption (KY) – Kiva 17 Red
Strong first caught my eye when she took a wicked swing out of the back row. She has a powerful swing and athletic movement that combine to make her a real lethal attacker from either pin. Strong also puts up an impressive block and moves well laterally across the net and gets in the air quickly.
Vaia Tsioutsioulas – 2023 – Pin Hitter – Sir John A Macdonald Collegiate Institute – Leaside 17UG Flash (Ontario, Canada)
Tsioutsioulas is small but quick and explosive. She is clearly a strong-willed and determined player and could be an athlete to watch for in Canada. Tsioutsioulas has a solid foundation and does a nice job executing in transition.
Ava Holtz – 2024 – 5’9 – Pin Hitter – LaPorte (IN) – KeAloha 161N Cape Fear
Holtz caught my eye as she was really solid in her serve-receive, pass, to attack transition. She has the ability to jump and execute the attack. Holtz was a good communicator, worked well with her setters, and did a great job of bettering the out-of-system ball to make her setter look really good.
Emily Lamb Emily Lamb 5'10" | OH Stewartville | 2023 State MN – 2023 – 5’10 – Pin Hitter – Stewartville (MN) – SMV 17-1 Black
Lamb is fundamentally strong in her swing and general skills, but what made her stick out to me was her athleticism. She is dynamic and hardworking at the pin with a great attack. Lamb also is sound in serve-receive and defense, making her a solid candidate to play all 6 rotations.
Sydney Mcafee – 2024 – Outside Hitter – Pleasant Plains (IL) – Springfield Shock
Mcafee takes a wicked swing from either pin and works hard to get the job done. She has a big arm and can score often in all 6 rotations. Mcafee was dynamic and her shot selection says she has a pretty solid volleyball IQ as well.
Hannah Ball Hannah Ball 5'11" | OH Midlothian | 2024 State VA – 2024 – Pin Hitter – Midlothian (VA) – Richmond Volleyball Club
Ball has a really high contact point and fast swing. I can’t stress enough how her arm is just a whip and could be registered as a weapon. Ball is a dynamic hitter and can absolutely terminate while also having great ball control in serve-receive.

Paige Overcash – 2024 – 5’11 – Pin Hitter – Ashe County (NC) – Carolina Select 16 National
Overcash had a really nice high contact point, and she can make an impact both offensively and defensively at the net. She is dynamic, long, and can terminate from anywhere on the net. Overcash is a very active player and likes to run a very fast game.
Elle Haddon – 2023 – Pin Hitter – Waukesha South (WI) – RVA 17 Navy
Haddon did a really nice job of finding her way through and around the block to get the deep cross corner shot. When an overpass came her way, she did not hesitate to get on top of it and terminate immediately. Haddon is athletic, dynamic, and strong on either pin, making her a versatile recruiting option.

Emersyn Robbins – 2024 – Outside Hitter – Fairfield Community (IL) – Evansville United
Robbins can really elevate, and then she can hit the ball across her body line over the block and drop it in the corner. She is a 6-rotation player with a strong and dynamic arm. Robbins also has solid ball control to go along with her ability to terminate.
Vivian Hinton – 2023 – Pin Hitter – Huntsville (AL) – NASA 171J
Hinton takes a hard swing, jumps well, and works hard. She is an athletic and dynamic 6-rotation player who can be a primary passer and scorer from anywhere. She operates with confidence, works efficiently, and leads by example.
