There were, however, tournaments happening elsewhere and one of them was the Katy United Classic #7, held at the club of the same name in the Katy area, which reunited 17 teams from the Houston region in the 16s age groups for a day of competition.
We were there, closely following the action and are reporting on some of the most promising players we saw on the court during the week. Now it’s time we list the right sides who were of great importance to their teams.
Rylee Henderson – Texas Legacy 16 Elite – HS: Concordia Lutheran – 2024
Rylee Henderson stands out for her potent offense. She stands at 5’10” and has long arms, but what truly impresses in her game is the firepower she’s got on her right arm. Henderson does an excellent job in adjusting to any set and timing her approach really well, which allows her to go full power in any situation. She can also hit quick sets behind the setter’s back and is highly efficient on those too.
Haley Baalson – Katy United 16 Navy – HS: Cypress Ranch – 2024
Haley Baalson was probably the most physical right side hitter in action last weekend. She certainly wasn’t the tallest of them at 5’8”, but no one had a heavier arm than Baalson’s. A good jumper, she used her firepower to score points in big moments and even in less-than-ideal conditions. Baalson also made very few mistakes with her offense.
Carolina Solis – Texas Boom 16 Elite – 2024
Carolina Solis’ game was similar to Baalson’s in a certain way. She doesn’t have great size for the position, but is extremely explosive and can hit the ball hard. Solis was the player her Texas Boom 16 Elite teammates turned to in big moments and she would get set even when she was on the backcourt. Also very technical, she contributed to the team’s serve-receiving system as well.
Amanda Brasen – Katy United 16 Molten – HS: Cinco Ranch – 2024
Capable of playing anywhere at the net, Amandra Brasen showed good potential on the right after spending most of the last season on the left. She’s got great length at 5’10” and uses it really well on offense, making contact with the ball at a high point and often targeting the very last inches of the court. Brasen, who’s already a very technical and efficient blocker, will further improve her offense when she adds more firepower to it.
Aubrey Krueger – Texas Legacy 16 National – HS: Klein Cain – 2024
A versatile player who can perform in the middle or the right, Aubrey Krueger was a viable scoring option for her Texas Legacy 16 National team. The 5’8” prospect has quite a few different weapons on her offensive arsenal and is really difficult to stop when hitting line. Besides displaying a high efficiency at the net, Krueger also helped her team with her passing skills.
Landry Wells – Katy United 16 Red – 2024
A lefty, Landry Wells displayed some interesting potential on the right side of the net with Katy United 16 Red. She combines good size with a great ability to hit in different directions thanks to her excellent wrist. Wells side out at important moments for her team and is one of those players who don’t slow down when the match is on the line.
