Among them, Skyline 17 Black, out of Dallas, won the first place title but was a very competitive 17 USA bracket on day 3. Below we will highlight some Lone Star Region Teams who made it to the Gold Bracket on day 3.
TCVA 17 Green Adidas
TCVA has been putting out some highly competitive teams over the last two years. This year’s 17 Green Adidas team has been showing out for the Shertz, Texas area. They have finished in the top 10 all season, and secured a bid at Lone Star Classic in 17 USA. Megan Hawkins Megan Hawkins 5'9" | S Canyon | 2024 State TX , who plays for Canyon High School, is usually running the show for TCVA as setter. She has a great jump set and even pushes herself to jump set tough balls behind the 10-foot line. At 5’9, she even puts up a pretty good block on the right side when she plays front row. Kinsley Gates is another stand-out for TCVA 17 Green. Standing as a 6’0 middle, she is agile, quick to the pin, and hits a set from the outside really well. She works with her setter to be available as much as possible. TCVA finished 2nd overall in 17 USA.
Houston Skyline 17 Black
Houston Skyline 17 Black was in the mix this weekend in the Gold Bracket of 17 USA. A few front-row players helped Houston Skyline be successful this weekend. The first was pin hitter Lyric Jordan out of Manvel High School. She took some big swings on the right side over the weekend, and at 6’2, put up a huge block for Houston Skyline, which resulted in several stuff blocks. Another big pin hitter was Kennedy Kays Kennedy Kays 6'2" | OH Bridgeland | 2023 State TX out of state final four Bridgeland High School. Over the weekend she played mainly as a 6 rotation outside hitter, but she also serve received well and hit the line shot from the right side. Houston Skyline 17 Black finished 5th overall in 17 USA.
Austin Performance 17 Adidas
Austin Performance 17 Adidas made it into the Gold Bracket on day 3 of Lone Star Classic. They have struggled in the open division all year, and looked great playing in 17 USA over the weekend. Setter Ryleigh Garis Ryleigh Garis 5'10" | S Vista Ridge | 2023 State TX , ran the offense for AP, and looked solid all weekend. Her hands are soft, and the ball comes out not only smooth but with accuracy. She runs the floor really well with her middles and finds them even out of system. She will often jump and attack a tight ball at the net which gives her an extra advantage. Mackenzie Plante Mackenzie Plante 6'0" | OH Dripping Springs | 2023 State TX is a big offensive weapon for AP. Coming out of a great season at Dripping Springs, we have seen her serve receive improve which has allowed her to play 6 rotations. She has had a considerable amount of kills come out of the back row this club season as well. Austin Performance finished 9th overall at Lone Star Classic.
