Continue ReadingThe Platinum tournament is the best of the best in Oregon and Washington, competing for the #1 seed in the Pacific Northwest. The Puget Sound region and the Columbia Empire region each send their top four 16U and top four 18U teams to compete, so a total of eight teams in each age bracket. First playing in a pool and then in a small bracket, one team will come out on top. One team from each age bracket will drop down, allowing for one team to move up and compete. There will be a few more Platinum tournaments taking place later on that we will be covering as well.
In the 16U age bracket the teams in attendance were: NPJ 16-1 National (CE), OJVA 16-1 Gold (CE), Athena 16-1 Gold, G3 16-1 (CE), Dakine 16-1 Surf (PS), NPJ Seattle 16-1 National (PS), Puget Sound 15-1 Navy (PS), and Dakine 15-1 Surf (PS).
All teams competed and great volleyball was played. To recap the tournament, we will be highlighting some standout players in their respective position and class.
OREGON ——————
Kamden Mitchell Kamden Mitchell 5'10" | S Crescent Valley | 2025 State #41 Nation OR , 5’10”, S, Crescent Valley High School, G3 16-1 Volleyball

As the #3 recruit coming out of the 2025 class for Oregon, it is a surprise to no one that Mitchell is a critical aspect of the G3 16-1 team’s success. As their primary setter, she has been tasked with setting a 5-1 a majority of the time. Mitchell takes the court with a maturity level not often seen in freshmen. She holds herself calm and composed, two traits needed for a high-level setter. Her decision-making skills are impeccable, and she does a good job establishing and consistently setting her middle attackers. She gets her middles involved in plays even if it may be easier to set a pin hitter, which definitely keeps opponents on their toes.
Mitchell was a vital part of the Crescent Valley High School Raider’s success this past season, tasked with setting a 6-2 and a 5-1 depending on the match. Her play was a large part in the team’s second-place finish in the Midwestern Conference and their fourth-place finish in the 5A State tournament. Mitchell was awarded Midwestern Conference Honorable Mention last season.
Mitchell is currently not committed to a school for the fall of 2025.
Mia Hunt Mia Hunt 5'9" | S Central Catholic | 2025 State OR , 5’8”, S/DS/OH, Central Catholic High School, Athena 16-1 Gold

As the #1 recruit coming out of the 2025 class for Oregon, it is no surprise that Hunt is a major player for the Athena 16-1 Gold team. As the only 2025 on the roster, she juggled a few different positions at the beginning of club season but has solidified herself as a setter. Hunt typically runs a 6-2 alongside 2024 Hannah Brown Hannah Brown 5'8" | S Sherwood | 2024 State OR . However, she successfully ran a 5-1 for the second Platinum tournament when Brown was not present. Hunt is a versatile athlete with the ability to play any position on the court (with a massive smile across her face). No matter the point in the game, or the game itself, she goes all out all the time.
Hunt was a critical aspect of the lineup for the Central Catholic High School Rams, helping the team finish first in the Mt. Hood Conference and 4th in the 6A State tournament. Playing out of her normal position as a six-rotation outside hitter, she was awarded Mt. Hood Conference Honorable Mention.
Hunt is currently not committed to a school for the fall of 2025.
WASHINGTON ——————
Peyton Ensign, 5’7”, S, Curtis High School, Dakine 15 Surf
[ Link to recruiting profile ]
Ensign is the primary setter for the Dakine 15 Surf team and can be seen setting a 6-2 or a 5-1. When running a 6-2, Ensign attacks across the front row on the right side. A leftie, this is a natural fit for Ensign. She is an athletic and technically sound all-around setter with an infectiously positive attitude, always hyping up her teammates.
Ensign was a crucial aspect to the Curtis High School Vikings as their primary setter, a tall order for a freshman. Racking up over 1,000 assists in her freshman campaign, at this rate she may very well hit 5,000 assists by the end of her senior season. Curtis helped the team finish first in the South Puget Sound League and second in the 4A State tournament. She was awarded South Puget Sound First Team All-League and 4A First Team All-State this past season.
Ensign is currently not committed to a school for the fall of 2025.
2025 PERFECT PASSERS IN WASHINGTON
Manaia Alefaio, 5’2”, DS, Mount Rainier High School, North Pacific Juniors Seattle 16-1
[ Link to recruiting profile ]
Alefaio is the primary libero for the North Pacific Juniors Seattle 16-1 team. An absolute athlete, she plays lights out on defense and is controlled on serve receive. She excels on the defensive end. Incredibly dynamic, she reads the attack well and puts herself in a good position to dig the ball. With an incredibly fast reaction time, she keeps the unthinkable alive. Alefaio is a definite asset to this NPJ squad.
Alefaio played for the Mount Rainier High School Rams for her freshman season, one of two 2025s to make the varsity team. She took on a major role as a freshman, seeing court time as their primary libero. On the season, she had 132 digs. For her play, she was awarded North Puget Sound Second Team All-League.
Alefaio is currently not committed to a school for the fall of 2025.
Danielle Turcinec, 5’7”, DS/OH, John F. Kennedy Catholic High School, Puget Sound 15 Navy
[ Link to recruiting profile ]
Turcinec is the primary libero for the Puget Sound 15 Navy team. She does an exceptional job anticipating and reacting on both serve receive and defense. She consistently put up a settable ball for her team, keeping them as in system as possible. On defense, Turcinec does a great job reading the attack to put herself in a successful position to make a good pass.
Turcinec was on the varsity team for the John F. Kennedy Catholic High School Lancers. Shouldering a big load for a freshman, she saw significant court time as their setter/right-side hitter. Trained as a defensive specialist/outside hitter, this was a major change for Turcinec, but she did an exceptional job in this new role. For her play, Turcinec was awarded Most Valuable Player for her team as well as North Puget Sound Second Team All-League.
Turcinec is currently not committed to a school for the fall of 2025.
