It is here! The Lone Star Classic National Qualifier tournament held at the Kay Bailey Hutchinson Convention Center in Dallas will be played this weekend April 15-17th. There will be over a thousand talented teams from across the country competing in this awesome tournament and hundreds of college coaches in attendance. Texas will be well represented with 18 teams in the 17 Open Division. This is widely regarded as the tournament with the toughest competition in the nation. There are already seven Open level qualified teams entered in it and there are only three bids available. It will be a weekend full of cutthroat volleyball and we couldn't be more excited. We will be previewing a few of the players that will be showcasing their abilities for the Texas teams that are not yet qualified. They are some of the best players in the 2023 grad class. Let's meet a few of the talented players from the North Texas Region who college coaches need to watch this weekend.

Just for reference, the following teams are already Qualified for USA Junior Nationals in the Open Division and will be competing at the Lone Star Classic also:

Austin Juniors 17 Adidas

Alamo 17 Premier

Club V 17 Ren Reed

Drive Nation 17-Red

MADFROG 17'S N GREEN

Skyline 17 Royal

TAV 17 Black

Here are the North Texas Teams to watch in the 17 Open Division this weekend:

Excel 17 National Red

This talented team is led by the setting of [player_tooltip player_id="87577" first="Taylor" last="Polivka"] and Gracie Cagle. They have some fantastic hitters to set in [player_tooltip player_id="87530" first="Greyson" last="Button"], [player_tooltip player_id="87554" first="Ella" last="Chaney"], [player_tooltip player_id="176637" first="Landry" last="Baughman"], [player_tooltip player_id="141137" first="Autumn" last="Perry"] and Olivia Sanchez. So far they are 30-17 overall on the year and ranked as the 4th best team in the North Texas Region according to AES results. I have seen them in three tournaments so far this season and they have been super competitive against some open qualified teams. They have some serious athletes and they deserve some looks by colleges. If they can string together some key points in crucial times, this team has a serious chance to earn a bid.

Tejas 17 Black

They are ranked as the 10th best team in the North Texas Region according to AES results. They sit at 23-19 overall on the season and are eager to showcase their skills against the best in the nation. [player_tooltip player_id="122892" first="Reagan" last="Fifer"], [player_tooltip player_id="153299" first="Madison" last="Parrish"], Mya Black, and [player_tooltip player_id="141116" first="Sydney" last="Garrison"] are studs. They have a few other players that will get some college interest from what I saw in Orlando at the Sunshine Classic. I wouldn't sleep on this team as they have some serious firepower along the net and can challenge anyone in this field. They will be very competitive and full of vigor when they play.

Texas Image 17 Asics Black

They are led by the setting of [player_tooltip player_id="87580" first="Emily" last="Keohen"] and Kate-Linh Eden. High-flying [player_tooltip player_id="180155" first="Gracie" last="Lee"], Samaya Wesson, [player_tooltip player_id="142641" first="Kaitlyn" last="Jones"], and Faiana Halatoa are some names to know on this fun to watch team. I got to work with a few of these stellar athletes at our Top 250 Showcase in December and am intrigued to watch them in person this weekend. They have great personalities and are very dynamic on the court. I am going to keep my eye on them to surprise some teams in Dallas. College coaches should definitely take the time to watch them in action as they have some players who can land on rosters in a few years.

I will be in attendance and will try to cover as many players/teams as I can. Be sure to share your schedules with me on Twitter. There are some other great players that we will be covering during the three-day weekend. Stay tuned to see who plays well and deserves kudos as we will be writing articles on how they perform. We will have some good pictures of their play also.
