We just completed Showcase at the Sunshine Classic National Qualifier in Orlando this past weekend. We had over 250 amazing athletes participate over three sessions the day before the tournament. This article series is specifically about those ballers who stood out for various reasons in their showcase. Let’s meet a few of these standouts:
Jordan Eager [2023] 5-5 Setter/Defensive Specialist (HS: Clear Springs/Club: Houston Stellar/Verbal: Uncommitted)
Jordan is currently an unranked prospect in the 2023 class according to our Prep Dig Texas State Rankings, but we loved what we saw at the showcase this past weekend. She plays for Clear Springs High School and also for Houston Stellar out of the southeast Houston area. Jordan is a smooth setter who has a lot of power to push the ball perfectly to the pins from way out of system. She has excellent repeatable set location on all tempos. What stood out the most was her defense out of the right back position during the showcase. Jordan also doubles as a back row defensive specialist for her high school squad. During the showcase she was brilliant out of right back as she didn’t let much fall near her zone. Her court coaches mentioned how soft her hands were and how coachable she was. We were very happy to have had her in the gym in one of our showcases. Stay tuned for more on Miss Eager.
Cassandra Martin [2023] 5-8 Outside (HS: Merritt Island/Club: Game Point/Verbal: Uncommitted)
Cassandra is currently an unranked prospect in the 2023 class according to our Prep Dig Florida State Rankings, but showed up and showed out as a standout attacker at the showcase. This powerful pin plays high school at Merritt Island and club for Game Point. Miss Martin’s raw power was on full display all night and she never showed signs of fatigue. I loved her hand contact as she was able to direct the ball anywhere she wanted to offensively. She was able to move it around easily and score in a variety of ways. Even though she might be a little undersized for an attacker, she showed a willingness to go against players much bigger than her without batting an eye. This kind of toughness and competitiveness made every coach fall in love with how she approached the showcase. She truly gave her all in every drill and won everyone’s hearts. Miss Martin deserves a look or two from schools who want someone who will never back down and help foster that environment in their program.
Samantha Valadez [2024] 5-9 Setter (HS: Brandeis/Club: Alamo/Verbal: Uncommitted)
Samantha is currently ranked as the 54th best overall prospect in the 2024 class according to our Prep Dig Texas State Rankings. She plays at Brandeis high school and also club for Alamo out of the San Antonio area. Her court coaches were very impressed with both her defense out of the right back area and also her skill-set with setting. The length in her arms allowed her to be a threat to block while at the net. She was super consistent with delivering hittable balls to every location whether in system or not. What stood out to us was her ability to communicate on the floor with everyone throughout the entire showcase. She didn’t know all of the players on her court, but it felt like she knew them her whole career. Having a setter who can communicate on the court with her teammates and bring the best out of them is a dream come true for coaches. Miss Valadez was a joy to work with as a coach and we would recommend her to any school who wants a true leader on the court. Stay tuned for more on Sam as we think she has a lot of upside to her game.
