We just completed Showcase at the Sunshine Classic National Qualifier in Orlando this past weekend. We had over 250 amazing athletes participate over three sessions the day before the tournament. This article series is specifically about those ballers who stood out for various reasons in their showcase. Let’s meet a few of these standouts:
Madison Smith [2023] 5-10 Outside (HS: West Orange/Club: Game Point/Verbal: Uncommitted)
Madison is currently an unranked prospect in the 2023 class according to our Prep Dig Florida State Rankings. She plays for West Orange High School and also for a club who is taking the Florida area by storm, Game Point out of the Orlando. In three years on her varsity team, she has amassed 518 kills on a career .263 hitting percentage. She also has a career 38 blocks, 622 digs, and 93 aces. This young lady can play. We were able to see this in action in person during our showcase. She has a picturesque approach and uses her long arms during her upswing to gain more inches on her vertical. Multiple court coaches marveled at her ability to rise up quickly during our hitters versus blockers drill, which put each athlete in game-like situations to slow their opponents down. We think she has a high ceiling to keep improving and get on many college coaches lists.
Talan Dodson [2024] 5-10 Outside (HS: Davenport/Club: Alamo/Verbal: Uncommitted)
Talan is currently an unranked prospect in the 2024 class according to our Prep Dig Texas State Rankings, but has risen to our scouts radar based on what we saw during the showcase in person. Talan plays at Davenport High School and the famed Alamo volleyball association in central Texas. We were all very impressed with this young lady’s overall skill-set after seeing her in person at the showcase. She can literally do it all on the court with ease. She is a double-double waiting to happen on the court for any team that she plays for. Her ability to be a six-rotation outside is a big help to any roster. She has amazing defensive skills that add to her stellar offense. She is the total package in a player. It is no wonder that she was a 1stTeam All-District selection in Texas. It didn’t matter who we matched her up with during our scrimmages as Miss Dodson can score on anyone. Please give her a look or two as she had most of our court coaches commenting on her play.
Karrington Crawford [2024] 5-9 Middle (HS: Harlan/Club: Top Gun/Verbal: Uncommitted)
Karrington is currently an unranked prospect in the 2024 class according to our Prep Dig National Rankings. She plays at Harlan High School and also club for Top Gun out of the San Antonio area. While she might be a little undersized in the middle position compared to others, she plays well above the net. We learned at the showcase that she is capable of running every route in the middle route tree with lots of pace. She is very quick to her touch point off of transition and also very quick off of the ground during her approach. One thing that she does well for her size is block. This young lady’s timing was second to none in the showcase. She was slowing down and stopping a lot of players taller than her. Stay tuned for more from Miss Crawford as we think her ceiling is very high considering what we saw in person.
