Our choice this past weekend was the TOV Challenge #7, which took place at the Texas One Volleyball Club, in Richmond, where eight teams competed in the 18s Division and 12 hit the court among the 17s.
As usual, we’ve been presenting the most impressive players in each position during the weekend, following with our selection for the All-Tournament Teams in both divisions. In our last positional piece, we’ll highlight the right sides that caught our eye.
Elizabeth Dominey – Fort Bend Jrs 18 Legacy – HS: St. John’s – 2022
A long and athletic right side hitter, Elizabeth “Beth Ann” Dominey brought some firepower to Fort Bend Jrs 18 Legacy’s offense. She stands at 5’10” but her long arms make her look taller and all that length is very helpful on offense. Dominey makes contact with the ball at a very high point and has the ability to hit it in different directions. Her game still needs to be polished in certain areas, but she got tremendous potential at the net.
Olivia Chojnacki – Woodlands Revolution 18 Adidas – HS: The Woodlands – 2023
A dynamic right side player with tremendous versatility and an impressive all-around game, Olivia Chojnacki brings a lot of energy to the court. Despite standing at just 5’8”, she can hit the ball pretty powerfully from the right, combining her excellent leaping ability with her quick arm. Also a very good server, Chojnacki plays as a setter for her high school team and uses that skill set to help Woodlands Revolution 18 Adidas in that area when she’s at the backcourt too.
Sasha Donaie – AVA TX 18 Attack – HS: Goose Creek Memorial – 2022
A middle blocker turned into right side hitter, Sasha Donaie made AVA TX 18 Attack’s blocking a lot better when she was on the court. She stands at 6’2” and has great instincts at the net, often standing in the way of opposing outside hitters. Donaie was a solid offensive piece for her high school team Goose Creek Memorial hitting from the middle, where she produced 141 kills last season, but is still adjusting to the higher sets on the right side of the net.
Rylee Sherman – SETX 17u Elite – HS: Vidor – 2023
Rylee Sherman is an extremely versatile and active player who happens to spend most of her time on the right with her SETX 17u Elite team. Sherman stands at 5’11” and is fairly athletic, a combination that makes of her a prolific hitter and blocker. She wears a lot of different hats for her team and might block in the middle on one play and set on the next one.
Presley Gardner – FR Premier Jrs 17 Gold – HS: Clear Creek – 2024
Presley Gardner is one of those players who make the most with their tools. She’s not really tall at 5’8”, but is very explosive and efficient when hitting from the right for her FR Premier Jrs 17 Gold team. She has a good variation on her offensive arsenal and is extremely consistent, but is particularly difficult to stop when hitting line.
Kate Spinelli – Houston Skyline 17 White – HS: St. Francis Episcopal – 2024
Capable of playing at either pin, Kate Spinelli gives a lot of flexibility to her Houston Skyline 17 White team. She typically moves around from the left to the right according to what her team needs and what allows her to do that is her complete game. Spinelli is not extremely tall at 5’9” but is very explosive. She is also a technical player and knows exactly which weapon she should use to score when set at the net.
