The athletes below are playing some great volleyball in the Lone Star Region, and are working to help create success for their team. Make sure to catch these athletes at the Regional Tournament at George R. Brown on May 7-8th.
Mckynzie Wallace – Kingwood Park High School – TAV Houston
First up is Mckynzie Wallace, an under the radar setter who has been setting for TAV Houston and running a 5-1 for competitive 5A high school Kingwood Park. Her defense is what stands out most about her. She can dig a hard driven ball really well, as well as read the tip over the block. As far as her setting goes, the ball comes out really clean on target. She works really hard to get her body square before each set, and does have a really good jump set when in system. Haley Garza – Antonian Prep – San Antonio Magic
Haley Garza, libero for San Antonio Magic is up next. What stands out about her is her gritty-ness to get to every ball. She has a great read in left back no doubt, but also really works to make tough plays for her team. While watching her in serve receive, she likes to take control of most of the court as possible and she is highly successful at doing this. Ava Martindale – College Station High School – TAV Houston
Next up is another stellar libero from College Station, Ava Martindale. Ava currently plays for TAV Houston and is a part of the squad that has qualified for 17 USA this season. She is a huge defensive stand out. Her reaction time is very quick, and she is able to dig balls that are short and hard driven. What is impressive about her serve receive is that she is able to create great angles with her platform and drive the ball central to the court. Check it out here hudl.com/v/2Gk45t.
Haley Muse – Faith West Academy – Texas Tornados
Our next setter is Texas Tornado’s Haley Muse. She also plays for competitive TAPPS Faith West Academy. Haley definitely plays bigger than her size, and shes not afraid to get in on the block when setting on front row. She does have a considerable amout of volleyball IQ, and has a great setter dump. I have noticed she loves to find her middle hitters, even out of system and works to get them a good set, which is hard to do. Take a look at her most recent highlight video here hudl.com/v/2GyVbN.
Jordan Eager Jordan Eager 5'5" | DS/L Clear Springs | 2023 State TX – Clear Springs High School – Houston Stellar
Last but not least is Houston Stellar’s Jordan Eager Jordan Eager 5'5" | DS/L Clear Springs | 2023 State TX . Building off her high school’s success this season, she is a defensive force this year for Houston Stellar. It is very hard to earn a point against her as a hitter. She can dig a hard swing, and her reaction time is super fast! Her strong personality commands the court. Her setting is just as good as her defense. She is accurate with her sets, and sets a variety of balls really well. Check out her most recent highlight video here hudl.com/v/2HJm4V.
