The event showcased a lot of young talent and players that were willing to go the extra mile to help their team.
Here’s a look at some that caught my eye.
Summit 16 Blue Elite
Samantha Christen, L/DS: Christen was a real go-getter on the court and a great leader for her team. She had the athletic range to dig up a lot of tough attacks, but was also very encouraging on the floor and supportive of her squad.
Renee Greving Renee Greving 6'1" | S Huntington North | 2024 State IN , S: You can’t have the success Summit had offensively without a good setter to spread the ball around. Greving was in complete control of the offense and made her sets look effortless. She kept mixing up the hitters and finding the right locations for her team to finish points.
Michigan Elite 16 Mizuno
Jackie Scheiber Jackie Scheiber 6'0" | S Riverview | 2024 State MI , S: Schieber can play OPP as well, but where she was really making an impact was with her setting and serving. She put together some great service runs that put her team in command of sets. Setting, she got a lot of production out of the offense and was on-point with her locations.
Hailey Green Hailey Green 5'1" | DS/L North Branch | 2024 State MI , L/DS: Green was very active to the ball and managed to make some digs that looked sure to hit the ground. She’s a very determined defender that has the quick reaction time needed to be an elite defender.
MVA 16 Black
Johanna Bredeweg, S: Bredeweg was a really solid athlete that was using her athleticism to excel at the position. She played a lot of different sets and mixed up the hitters well. Having former Miss Volleyball, Erin O’Leary, as an assistant coach probably doesn’t hurt either.
Hope Davies Hope Davies 5'5" | DS/L Forest Hills Eastern | 2024 State MI , L/DS: Davies played with a lot of poise. She was laser focused during plays and knew the right times to get to spots. Her communication skills were strong as well, as she took command of the defense and got her team in the right place.
Inside Out 16 Mizuno Black
Samantha Baker, S: Baker looked very loose on the floor, which led to some strong play. Along with a nice touch on her sets that tended to lead to finishes, Baker was very instinctive defensively and came through with some nice digs to keep points alive.
HPVBA 16-1
Elisa Delosrios, S: Delosrios had good touch on the ball and had good chemistry with her hitters. When the team was in-system, she was able to deliver a set that allowed her hitters to really bring the heat. She also had good footwork to be an asset defensively.
HVVC 16 Blue
Kate Fredericks, L/DS: It was a tough weekend for HVVC, but Fredericks did her part to keep her team in sets. She took on a lot of big attacks and still got the ball to her setter. Fredericks was also all over the court, putting her body on the line to keep a point alive.
