A lot has been shown over the last six months as familiar names confirmed our positive impressions about them and new names were added to our rankings and watchlists in every corner of the Lone Star State.
Some tournaments are still going on, though, and we, at Prep Dig, are determined to not waste any opportunity of spotting a new prospect and giving visibility to those who stand out and deserve our recognition.
This past weekend I was at the WSC Classic #9, which was held at the popular Willowbrook Sports Complex in the Houston area, and reunited 12 teams in its hybrid 17s/18s division. We’ve identified some names that deserve to be in the spotlight and will use this week to do it. In this piece, we’ll highlight some of the most productive right side hitters of the event.
Samantha Rabius – Texas Triumph 18s – HS: East Bernard – 2022
Samantha Rabius was easily the most impressive player in her Texas Triumph 18s team. A six-footer, she has excellent mobility on the court and is really difficult to stop at the net because of her combination of length and power. Rabius was the typical case of a player that does a lot of things well and have their coaches using her in a variety of roles to increase her impact on the game. During the event, she hit and blocked in the middle and left and even set when on the backcourt.
Rylee Henderson – TX Legacy 16 Elite – HS: Concordia Lutheran – 2024
Rylee Henderson uses her length and power really well to score points at the net. She stands at 5’10” but has long arms and jumps really well. That gives her excellent reach when hitting and Henderson uses it the most she can, unleashing her power left and right when in system. She proved to be an extremely reliable offensive player and sided out in important moments of matches.
Anaiah Jordan – Space City 181 Astros – HS: Hightower – 2022
Anaiah Jordan split her time between setting and hitting duties with her Space City 181 Astros team and although her ballhandling was pretty good, she stood out for the impact she was able to make on offense despite standing at just 5’7”. Jordan is a tremendous jumper and her impressive hang time makes of her a solid scoring option. As a setter, she’s naturally very technical, but can also score with power when needed. Jordan also has excellent timing with her blocking.
Mackenzie Taylor – Allegiance 18 Royal – 2022
Mackenzie Taylor is not the prototypical right side hitter, which has excellent size and reach on offense, but she can hit the ball hard. Many would think Taylor is slightly undersized for the position, but she’s extremely effective because of her great jumping ability and heavy arm. She’s the player any coach wants on the ball in clutch moments and is also skilled enough to help the team with her passing.
Kinlea Reeder – TX Legacy 17 Elite – HS: Concordia Lutheran – 2023
Kinlea Reeder combines excellent size at six feet and impressive firepower on her right arm. She was extremely prolific when playing on the right side for her TX Legacy 17 Elite team also because of her ability to hit different sets and her diversified arsenal. Also capable of playing on the left, Reeder is also a solid blocker, standing in the way of opposing hitters at the net.
Alexandria Bowles – TX Hurricane 17 CAT 5 – HS: Dickinson – 2023
Alexandria Bowles was nothing like the other players on this list as she offers a lot more to her team on the backcourt than at the net. She’s not very tall, but is one of the team’s best players when it comes to passing and defense. Even if she’s not the tallest or strongest hitter at the net, Bowles still finds ways to score some points with tips and by tooling the block.
