There will be 48 talented teams from across the country competing in this awesome tournament and hundreds of college coaches in attendance. Northern California will be well represented with two awesome teams in the 17 Freedom Division. It will be a tournament of amazing volleyball and I couldn’t be more excited to cover it in person. We will be previewing a few of the players that will be showcasing their abilities for these awesome California teams. They are some of the best players in the 2023 grad class. Let’s meet a few of the talented players who college coaches need to watch.
SF Tremors 17 Wolverines
They are currently 28-20 overall and have played some great competition all year long. They are currently ranked as the 11th best team in the Northern California region according to AES results. SF Tremors 17 Wolverines finished 10th overall in the USA division of the Pacific Northwest Qualifier in Spokane. They won their bid via the Northern California Region. Setter Noelle Winn was fantastic in the back row when I watched her team during the Pacific Northwest National Qualifier. Her scrappy defense allowed her team to stay in a ton of rallies. Angela Chen was on fire on the left side as she helped her team stay competitive against some elite competition. Lefty opposite Amy Schechter unleashed some bombs on the right side that were eye popping. Libero Larissa Firmansyah steadied the ship in serve receive and kept them in system throughout the entire Pacific Northwest Qualifier. This team has some players that should be looked at by colleges for sure. I cannot wait to cover them at nationals in Indy.
Five Starz 17 Debbie
They are currently 39-22 overall and are eager to prove themselves amongst the best in the nation. They are currently ranked as the 7th best team in the Northern California Region according to AES Results. Five Starz 17 Debbie finished 5th overall in the USA division of the Pacific Northwest Qualifier in Spokane. They won their bid via the Northern California Region. Libero Reese Ampi Reese Ampi 5'6" | DS/L University Prep | 2023 CA does a fantastic job at helping her team stay competitive out of the left back zone. She does not let a lot of balls fall anywhere near her. I like how she keeps her eyes on the setter and waits for the ball to be released before she transitions to her defensive spot. This ensures that no setter dumps will score on her team. Right side Allison Mimbs is a stone cold killer on the pins. She is an elite attacker who can score on any defense. I love how she truly contacts the ball at the peak of her reach which makes it tough for any blocker to slow her down. Setter Breanna Davis is a stud on the defensive end as she has libero-like skills. Middle Mackenzie Godden runs a slide just as well as any middle in the country. She glides through the air and has perfect timing to hit the ball with so much power for a kill. This team is a dark horse to do some damage at nationals and I cannot wait to watch them in person.
I will be in attendance at nationals and will try to cover as many players/teams as I can. Be sure to share your schedules with me on Twitter once they become live. There are some other great players that we will be covering during the tourney. Stay tuned to see who plays well and deserves kudos as we will be writing articles on how they perform. We will have some good pictures of their play also.
