Continue ReadingThe high school volleyball season is set to start in just a few weeks in the state of Texas and after a quick break following the conclusions of the club season, we can’t wait any longer to watch the top prospects of the Lone Star State in action again.
There will be several thousand players in action across the 1,207 high school teams that compete in the six divisions of the University Interscholastic League (UIL) and among them, there are some very talented ones, who certainly have a bright future in the sport.
As we continue to preview what the high school season will look like in the Houston area, we shift our focus from teams to players and highlight five of the most intriguing prospects in the districts located in the region.
Today we’ll feature Division 6A – District 14:
Asia Davis – Middle Blocker/Outside Hitter – Benjamin Davis – 2024
Asia Davis was a key player for Benjamin Davis last season despite being a sophomore. The 5’8” prospect used her athleticism to be very productive at the net and was even moved from her original middle blocker position to the pin, where she could make more of a difference with her excellent reach. Davis tallied 130 kills, 269 digs, 113 digs and 47 aces last season and could be even more productive in 2022-2023, when she’s expected to be the team’s centerpiece.
Breah Pierre – Outside Hitter – Aldine – 2023
Breah Pierre got to contribute across the board for Aldine last season as she ended the team’s campaign with 79 passes, 67 digs and 60 kills. She’s a little undersized to play a hitter at 5’5” but has a huge vertical and does an excellent job in placing her shots well out of reach for opposing defenders. Pierre also adds a lot to the team in terms of leadership and encouraging her teammates.
Emeli Muagututi’a – Setter – MacArthur – Club: Houston Juniors – 2023
A talented and productive setter, Emeli Muagututi’a was one of the reasons MacArthur finished at the top of the district in the last two seasons. Good teams typically start with good setters and Muagututia’s production of 1,230 assists, 343 digs, 209 kills and 146 aces across the last two seasons has been nothing short of impressive. The 5’9” setter has good size to impact the game at the net and is also excellent with the ball in her hands, especially because of her excellent technique, which guarantees precision and consistency to her sets.

Holly Richardson – Outside Hitter – Nimitz – 2023
Holly Richardson was a key piece for her Nimitz team last season and that won’t likely change this team. A 5’8” outside hitter with excellent athleticism, she knows her way around the net but is also capable of impacting the game on the backcourt. She was extremely productive in her team’s most recent campaign, ending the season with 250 kills, 214 digs, 317 passes and 33 aces to her name.

Kori Sessions – Right Side/Outside Hitter – Spring – Club: Houston Juniors – 2025
When it comes to potential, there’s probably no player in the district at the same level as Kori Sessions. Standing at 6’2”, she’s a force at the net and can play anywhere, from the pin to right. Her offense is still coming together, but she can hit a few different sets and was able to register 131 kills as a freshman. Sessions is a very good blocker, combining size and an excellent read of the game, and also registered 244 passes last season. After being part of an excellent club team at Houston Juniors over the last few months, she should return as an even better player to her high school team.
