Continue ReadingOur Lady of the Lake University coach Raul Bernal, Schreiner University coach Jeremiah Tiffin and former University of Texas at San Antonio coach Laura Groff put on a wonderful invitational volleyball camp that is dubbed “The Camp” this past week. Prep Dig was in attendance and saw some great players. A lot of them are listed either on our State Rankings or they are on our watch list to potentially be added. This is a who’s who of Central Texas volleyball players and we were very excited to see the awesome players on the courts.
This series of articles will highlight the players that stood out to me for a variety of reasons. Here are some of the 2025 players who starred:
Giselle Orellana [2025] 5-10 Outside/Right Side (HS: SA Clark/Club: SA Magic/Verbal: Uncommitted)
Giselle is currently an unranked prospect in the 2025 class according to our Prep Dig Texas State Rankings. Miss Orellana plays at Clark High School and also club for San Antonio Magic . She was super impressive last week as she took a very aggressive approach, which helped her gain a lot of momentum for her vertical. She uses her arms during her upswing and downswing to add a lot of pop on the ball during contact. The way she plays the game makes her look like a seasoned upperclassman to the average spectator. You can see that she has a very high volleyball IQ and plays the pins well both in the front row and the back row. I liked how she was ready to swing both front row and back row at any time. Offensively she is able to give a lot to her team from either the left side or the right side as her swing brings a lot of heat. She truly contacts the ball at the peak of her swing, which helps her stay aggressive. She will only get better as she progresses through the years but we will be keeping our eye on her growth.
Elly Stewart Elly Stewart 6'0" | MB Cornerstone Christian | 2025 State TX [2025] 5-11 Middle/Right Side (HS: Three Rivers/Club: Alamo/Verbal: Uncommitted)
Elly is currently ranked as the 65th best overall prospect in the 2025 class according to our Prep Dig Texas State Rankings. Miss Stewart plays at Three Rivers High School and also club for Alamo. Here is what I wrote in the preview article, “Elly is very quick laterally along the net and she can rise up off of the ground very explosively out of the middle for quick sets. She is very bouncy and I love her timing when it comes to battling opposing attackers at the net. Her lightning quick arm swing is what makes her very dangerous on the court on the offensive end. She can light it up in a hurry and that was very apparent when I watched her at nationals. She was a star when her team needed her the most.” During The Camp, Elly was dominant. I loved just how fast she is able to rise up even without taking an approach. She just has so many muscles in her lower body, which help propel her straight up when she needs it. This was very apparent when she was battling attackers at the net. During the scrimmage drills she showcased her abilities very well and had everyone talking about her. I loved how physical she is at the net against any opponent.
Isabella De La Rosa Isabella De La Rosa 5'6" | S Harlan | 2025 State TX [2025] 5-5 Setter (HS: Harlan/Club: San Antonio Juniors /Verbal: Uncommitted)
Isabella is currently an unranked prospect in the 2025 class according to our Prep Dig Texas State Rankings, but showcased herself very well last week. Miss De La Rosa plays at Harlan High School and also club for San Antonio Juniors . There is one word we throw around a lot when it comes to players and that word is “athletic”. But Isabella is the embodiment of that word as she flies around the court and jump sets to every location. During both individual setting drills and scrimmages her movement to the ball and during contact was very appealing to the eye. A lot of setters can jump set, but the way Miss De La Rosa does it, she makes it look like an art form. Her location was on point to all of her attackers and she showed me that we need to watch her a lot more closely to see if she can make the State Rankings soon. We will for sure keep an eye on her during the high school season.
We will be covering these players and more with insight into their skills and other intangibles that we see from them during individual positional drills and game play. Stay tuned to see who stood out as top performers.
