Continue ReadingOur Lady of the Lake University coach Raul Bernal and some wonderful coaches out of the San Antonio area are putting on a wonderful invitational volleyball camp that is dubbed “The Camp” that will be held over two days this coming week. Prep Dig will be in attendance to cover the wonderful players that have been invited to attend. A lot of them are listed either on our State Rankings or they are on our watch list to potentially be added. This is a who’s who of Central Texas volleyball players and we couldn’t be more excited to see the awesome players on the courts.
This series of articles will highlight the players who will be in attendance. There will be a few articles highlighting the players that stood out once it is complete. Let’s start out by meeting a few of the top names to know in the 2024 class.
Emma Miller [2024] 6-3 Right Side/Outside (HS: Lee/Club: Alamo/Verbal: Uncommitted)
Emma is currently an unranked prospect in the 2024 class according to our Prep Dig Texas State Rankings. Miss Miller plays at Lee High School and also club for Alamo. She is a lengthy pin who can affect the game either on the defensive end or offensive end at the net. Her reach is long and she has great power to battle anyone at the net.
Anais Velazquez [2024] 6-0 Right Side (HS: Johnson/Club: SA Juniors/Verbal: Uncommitted)
Anais is currently an unranked prospect in the 2024 class according to our Prep Dig Texas State Rankings. Miss Velazquez plays at Johnson High School and also club for San Antonio Juniors . She has power in her right arm for days. I love how she cocks back and unloads on every opponent. She is able to play multiple positions and provide much needed firepower to any team she plays for.
Carly Dossett [2024] 5-10 Setter (HS: Steele/Club: South Texas Volleyball Academy/Verbal: Uncommitted)
Carly is currently an unranked prospect in the 2024 class according to our Prep Dig Texas State Rankings, but I loved what I saw in person at nationals. Miss Dossett plays at Steele High School and also club for South Texas Volleyball Academy. She is a gifted setter who can ball with the best of them. I loved how athletic she was in the position. She is a taller setter who can also play well at the net if you need her to. Her fundamentals were very sound and she has a high volleyball IQ.
Taylor Alston Taylor Alston 5'10" | OH MacArthur | 2024 State TX [2024] 5-11 Outside (HS: McArthur/Club: South Texas Volleyball Academy/Verbal: Uncommitted)
Taylor is currently ranked as the 139th overall prospect in the 2024 class according to our Prep Dig Texas State Rankings. Miss Alston plays at McArthur High School and also club for South Texas Volleyball Academy. What I love about her play is how violent of an approach she takes no matter the location of the set. She sees red and attacks with one purpose…to kill. Her super high contact point give her a real advantage versus blockers.
Josslyn Abel [2024] 6-0 Middle (HS: NB Canyon/Club: South Texas Volleyball Academy/Verbal: Uncommitted)
Josslyn is currently an unranked prospect in the 2024 class according to our Prep Dig Texas State Rankings, but has a real shot at making the list soon with what we saw at nationals. Miss Abel plays at New Braunfels Canyon High School and also club for South Texas Volleyball Academy. She is a true middle who has a lot of potential in this game. Her blocking timing and press is elite level and I would like to see her go one on one against anyone. She is special because she can turn on the ball in mid air and blast away to the corners which will help her stay potent on offense for a long time.
Karrington Crawford [2024] 5-9 Middle (HS: Harlan/Club: Top Gun/Verbal: Uncommitted)
Karrington is currently an unranked prospect in the 2024 class according to our Prep Dig Texas State Rankings. Miss Crawford plays at Harlan High School and also club for Top Gun. I have seen her in action a few times and she has always played hard in every match I watched. Although a little smaller than most middles, don’t sleep on Karrington or you will be sorry. This young lady can fly and has great timing on both sides of the ball. She hits the ball with a good amount of power and can run every route on the middle route tree with precision.
Taryn Garcia [2024] 5-10 Outside (HS: Poteet/Club: Top Gun/Verbal: Uncommitted)
Taryn is currently an unranked prospect in the 2024 class according to our Prep Dig Texas State Rankings. Miss Garcia plays at Poteet High School and also club for Top Gun. I have seen her play since she was younger and this kid can fly on the court. Taryn is a great player who can play multiple positions on the court. She has a great arm swing that cuts through the air so fast during her down swing. When she makes contact with the ball…watch out! She has a lot of length in her extremities which make her contact point pretty high.
Kiana Souza Kiana Souza 5'7" | DS/L Harlan | 2024 State TX [2024] 5-7 Libero (HS: Harlan/Club: Top Gun/Verbal: Uncommitted)
Kiana is currently an unranked prospect in the 2024 class according to our Prep Dig Texas State Rankings, but is on our watch list for sure. Miss Souza plays at Harlan High School and also club for Top Gun. We have written about her before due to watching her at a few big tournaments as well as our showcases. She wowed all of our coaches and was pulled up to the older courts and she held her own well. Kiana is the type of libero who is athletically gifted and can do much more than just pass and dig. She has a natural touch on the ball that is beautiful to watch.
Grace Owens [2024] 5-8 Outside (HS: Warren/Club: Top Gun/Verbal: Uncommitted)
Grace is currently an unranked prospect in the 2024 class according to our Prep Dig Texas State Rankings. Miss Owens plays at Warren High School and also club for Top Gun. I have watched her a few times this year and she has been very impressive. She has an old school game to her that helps her score from the left side in a variety of ways. Call her the doctor because she has all of the shots you want in an attacker. She can score tooling the block with a lot of power, off-speed roll shots, and good old hard driven cross-court shots. Her ball control in the back row is also a positive her game that cannot go unnoticed.
Meg Simons [2024] 5-11 Right Side/Outside (HS: Samuel Clemens/Club: United/Verbal: Uncommitted)
Meg is currently an unranked prospect in the 2024 class according to our Prep Dig Texas State Rankings. Miss Simons plays at Clemens High School and also club for United VBA. She is a solid attacker who can throttle the ball when the team needs a boost of power. I like how she can move the ball around offensively to score for her squad. She is capable of playing at either pin and being a legit threat to score. With power like hers, she will for sure get noticed.
