This is a very prestigious tournament in which teams actually had to earn their bid to play in it. The qualification process is super tough throughout the year and the best of the best rose to the top. Prep Dig was on hand to cover every serve, set, kill, and pass of the ball from start to finish. This next article is going to discuss the 17 Liberty Division Champions…Texas Legacy 17 Elite.
The tournament field was filled with 24 awesome teams who each won their bid at a national qualifier. TX Legacy went into the tournament ranked as the 11th overall seed. They pushed through the competition by going undefeated in the opening pool to stay in division one going into day three. Multiple matches went to three sets and it showed just how tough this squad was. They were now ranked as the number one seed in the tourney. The second pool was not a problem as they continued their undefeated streak to reach the challenge match to get to the Gold Bracket. The challenge match against Top Notch to get to the Gold bracket was won in a tough three setter (24-26, 25-15, 15-10).
In the Gold bracket they faced off against a very tough Texas Image 17 Red team who took them to three sets. The final score had Legacy victorious (25-23, 14-25, 15-13). It was a very hard fought match that could have gone either way at the end of set three, but Legacy again showed a lot of grit and determination to succeed. The Championship match pitted them against another north Texas squad in Frisco Flyers 17 APX Chip. This match was tough and went back and forth at the beginning but Legacy eventually took control and won in straight sets (25-20, 25-19). They finished this tournament undefeated. It is our pleasure to introduce them as the USA Volleyball GJNC Liberty Division National Champions.
Let’s meet a few of the players that stood out to me while I watched them be crowned the best 17’s team in the Liberty Division of USA Girls Junior Nationals.
Olivia Comeaux [2023] 5-9 (Club: TX Legacy/Verbal: Uncommitted)
Olivia is currently an unranked prospect in the 2023 class according to our Prep Dig Texas State Rankings. I loved what I saw from Olivia during the championship match at USA Nationals. She was very impressive on the left side pin scoring for her squad while they won the championship of the Liberty division. She showed a lot of natural athleticism as she created a lot of momentum with her vertical to attack. This was very apparent as they also used Olivia as an attacker while she was in the back row. Her explosiveness off of the ground is something that stood out to every spectator in attendance. She played so well during the entire gold bracket that USA Volleyball awarded her the Most Valuable Player award. We hope you all help us congratulate her on the special achievement.
Savannah Jennings Savannah Jennings 5'10" | S Rosehill Christian | 2023 State TX [2023] 5-10 Setter (HS: Rosehill Christian/Club: TX Legacy/Verbal: Lee University)
Savannah is currently ranked as the 175th best overall prospect in the 2023 class according to our Prep Dig Texas State Rankings. Miss Jennings plays at Rosehill Christian High School and also club for Texas Legacy. We have covered Savannah for a while now as she has been ranked on our list over the last year. She is a great talent who just recently committed to Lee University to play on their volleyball team. I love how she tracks the ball off of the passers platforms and also how she sets up to deliver the set to her hitters. She always has such a great posture no matter the location of the ball. Savannah is a true leader on the court and shows a very high volleyball IQ while running her offense. She knows exactly who she is going to deliver the ball do in certain situations. Her team does not lose anything when she rotates to the front row as she has great length and is a solid blocker against opposing outsides. She played so well that USA Volleyball named her to the All Tournament Team. Please help us congratulate her on the honor.
Peyton Sedlacek [2023] 5-9 Outside (HS: College Park/Club: TX Legacy/Verbal: Uncommitted)
Peyton is currently an unranked prospect in the 2023 class, but is definitely on our watch list after what we witnessed at nationals. Miss Sedlacek plays for College Park High School and club for Texas Legacy. This young lady is a fantastic volleyball player as she has skills in every aspect of the game. Her total ball control isn’t just as an outside hitter who can score. She helps her squad in the back row in both serve receive and digging as well. This team stayed in system in large part due to what Peyton does well on the court. I loved watching her while she was in middle back playing defense. She covers the court very well and is extremely active both setting up in her adjusted defensive position and also covering her hitters. She is the type of person that you want on the court as she will do whatever it takes to keep the rally going for her squad. This was very apparent during the championship match. She played so well that USA Volleyball named her to the All Tournament Team. Please help us congratulate her on the honor.
Other players who starred for this squad are libero Kylie Bray who was very active in the back row and keeping them in system. Middle Faith Wilkins ran a fantastic slide for TX Legacy. Right side Kinlea Reeder was super solid both offensively and defensively at the net. This entire team played amazing as they went undefeated and won the Championship of the Liberty division!
