Sometimes I have so many notes, I just can’t get them all into articles immediately following an event, so I pick a time to find just the right piece for the player. Since the 2023’s will be kicking off their senior season, let’s look at twenty 2023’s who are all from the Midwest.
Kakes is a six-rotation outside who moves really well across the court, and you can find her anywhere the ball is going. She’s a point scorer with a strong swing, can be the outlet out of the back row, or executes with a crafty roll just over the block. Kakes is a bright spark for her team and a consistent force for her One Wisconsin team.
I really enjoy the energy Uphoff gives as a defender and captain of defense. She moves well and gets a lot of impressive touches on the ball. Uphoff has a strong, but calm, platform and confident body language. She moves efficiently and leads Marshfield in their scrappy style of play.
I got to see Deery in action at the Mizuno Showcase in early March, and she knows how to make her presence known. She gets off the floor quickly, makes herself available, and executes the attack extremely well. Deery is a powerful and natural player who can move well from pin to pin.
Rochon is super athletic and strong, so playing on the outside she is a solid, efficient, and legit scorer. She gets good elevation and has the ability to get a high, solid contact and good swing. Rochon is consistent and effective in all 6 rotations.
Highlights
Andreae is a lefty right side hitter who can take a really heavy swing that is difficult to make a decent play on. She is an attacker who puts a ton of speed on the ball, her skill set makes her really difficult to defend, and she can score points in different ways from different places on the net. She just knows how to get the job done.
Ilkka takes on senior leadership for Pacelli as an electric hitter with an electric personality. She is smooth and natural in her approach to either pin, and she stays relaxed to make a nice jump. Ilkka isn’t afraid to take a big swing out of the back row. She will be looking to keep her conference championship ways going with Pacelli.
Bugajski really runs the court for New Berlin Eisenhower, whether she is setting or hitting. Tight passes are no problem for Bugajski as she is a lefty who has mastered the turn and burn. She is definitely a good mix between the feisty player who has a nasty serve and finds ways to score any way she can and the player that stays cool and calm in the tight situations while keeping the momentum moving in the right direction.
