The Falcons lost to Conroe (tournament champions) in the quarterfinals and ended the weekend by winning the consolation match. Hargrave competes in 4A Region III District 20 and stands as the current #3 seed.
Hargrave’s next match will be this Tuesday at home against Bridge City. This game is usually a solid match up between the two schools, but it’ll be especially competitive this season. Hargrave won an intense three-set match against Bridge City last weekend (26-24, 19-25, 15-12).
Below are key Falcon standouts from the Dayton Invitational.
McKenzie Anderson
McKenzie Anderson
Anderson is a powerhouse middle that brings size and experience to the net. With her height and seniority, she dominates in her position. Her high reach and quick approach puts the ball away and lights a fire for the Falcons. Most teams struggled defensively against her quick attacks that were drilled on the 10-foot line.
Carli Briese
Carli Briese
Briese is an exciting upcoming hitter that has a big future on the court. Her height, power, and left-handed swing make her a dream right side. Only a sophomore, it’s clear she brings a lot to the Falcon program. Good luck to any outsides trying to attack through Briese and Anderson; their block together is a solid wall.
Addison Shannon
Addison Shannon
Shannon is a returning libero for the Falcons after taking on the role as a freshman last season. She made an appearance at GJNCs last summer, so that experience is a great transition into the fall. Defensively, she’s quick and agile in the back row. Her style of passing tends to be a bit flatter, speeding up the offense nicely.
Erin Drvenkar
Erin Drvenkar
Drvenkar leads the team as a starting setter, but just as importantly, an all-around player. As a senior, she plays with intention and a competitive drive with two seasons on varsity under her belt. She has an aggressive attack from right side including sharp cut shots. She leads the team by skill and a serious court presence.
Brooke Guerrero
Brooke Guerrero
Guerrero is another all-around player bringing a load of experience as a senior. Making varsity as a sophomore, she’s grown into a seasoned outside. Guerrero plays a smart game and her shots are calculated. She reads the court well and makes her powerful swings when the time is right. Her jump serve keeps opponents out-of-system and helps slow the game down on Huffman’s court.
