Liberty’s next match will be this Friday at home against Port Neches-Groves as a rematch for the Panthers. PNG beat Liberty in two sets (25-18, 25-23) on day one of the Dayton tournament.
Below are key Panther standouts from the Dayton Invitational.
Katrina Tran
Katrina Tran
Tran is a smaller setter, but plays big. Running a 5-1, she has smooth jump setting, a quick release, and she reverses the ball well from either pin. Her vertical makes up for her height, making her also an effective blocker. Tran is quick, athletic, and determined to make a play happen, even with tight and off passes. She’s involved in every play for the Panthers, making her a key player to their success this fall.
Madyson Goudeau
Madyson Goudeau
Any in-system pass will be set to Goudeau, and for good reason. She’s clearly an integral part of Liberty’s offense as a six-rotation middle. Jumping through the roof, she was swinging over most blocks and was a consistent scorer. She particularly executed well out of service receive on the right side and tipping sharp during quick plays. Goudeau is a big player for the Liberty squad.
Morgan Vaughn
Morgan Vaughn
Vaughn is a powerful and athletic middle that is another heavy hitter for Liberty. She exploited corners and did an exceptional job cutting the ball. Vaughn and Tran connected well on quick sets during rallies and executed on critical points. In addition, her press is big and shut down several opponents. Liberty’s offense should be solid with Vaughn and Goudeau as opposites.
Bryana Pantalion
Bryana Pantalion
Pantalion is a dynamic outside with an impressive vertical for a smaller pin hitter. Taking big transitions, she provides herself plenty of space for an athletic and aggressive approach. She completes her attack with a powerful swing thanks to her speed. Only a sophomore, Pantalion is an upcoming hitter to keep your eye on.
