Predicting what class some of the successful privates will fall in is a bit challenging until MSHSAA releases the districts at the end of the month. The rankings were based on last year’s classes, even though a couple of the privates in Class 4 could move up. Westminster is the clear favorite if they stay in Class 4 with the returning talent from last year’s championship team. Here are the 6-10.
6. Pleasant Hill Chicks 22-11
The Chicks should be a feisty bunch this season with the return of its top 3 attackers but will need to replace a setter in the 6-2. A loss to Pembroke Hill in the playoffs will motivate the Chicks to come out pecking at its opponents.
Key Returners:
G Layton 267 kills
Abygail Widhalm Abygail Widhalm 5'10" | OH Pleasant Hill | 2024 State MO 358 kills
Ela Hanes 103 kills and 488 assists
7. Smithville Warriors 26-6-5
A 1-3 playoff loss to St. Pius X ended an excellent year for the Warriors, and the loss of its main kill leader and blocker will be tough to replace. Plenty of offense and defense return to allow the Warriors to make a return to the playoffs. A 9/1 rematch with Pius X will give the Warriors an idea of how tough they are.
Key Returners:
Kennedy Outler Kennedy Outler 6'0" | RS Smithville | 2024 State MO 202 kills
Silvia Fisher 148 kills
Kelsie Gresham 290 digs
8. Pacific Indians 16-12-1
Pacific won a district title last year for the first time in over a decade and did it with a roster of underclassmen. This year the Indians will be more experienced and ready to prove they can win another district title.
Key Returners:
Kaitlin Payne Kaitlin Payne 5'8" | OH Pacific | 2025 State MO 129 kills and 178 digs
Caroline Tomlinson Caroline Tomlinson 5'11" | MB Pacific | 2025 State MO 64 blocks and 181 kills
Kamryn Bukowsky 324 digs
9. Marshfield 14-15-4
Last year’s record isn’t flashy, but seven of the main players were just sophomores. A year of experience will make this team better after taking their lumps last season.
Mollie Thomas Mollie Thomas 6'0" | S Marshfield | 2024 State MO 288 killsand 261 digs
Gracie Kimrey Gracie Kimrey 5'11" | MB Marshfield | 2024 State MO 274 kills
Ruby Joiner 361 digs
10. Windsor Owls 27-4-3
With the loss of one senior and a transfer, the Owls still return enough offense to threaten come playoffs. A large 2023 class will have Windsor ready to compete for a run in October.
Key Returners:
Lexi Menne Lexi Menne 5'4" | OH Windsor | 2023 State MO 268 kills and 285 digs
Maddison Williams 285 assists and 144 kills
