This tournament included over thirty participating teams that battled across AVA’s eight courts. 5A Barbers Hill recently finished 4th out of 44 teams at the Pearland Varsity Tournament and knocked out big school competition. Rolling in with a 9-2 record, the Eagles anticipated another big finish this weekend. After defeating Foster in two sets in the semifinals, the championship was locked in between Barbers Hill and Manvel. These teams are no strangers to each other and recently played a close three-set match in Pearland the previous weekend. Since Barbers Hill already had a victory over Manvel this preseason, the pressure was on the Eagles to beat top talent twice. For the second time this month, Barbers Hill clutched a very close win against Manvel and finished 7-0 this weekend.
Below are a few standout players.
Highlights
Fadal leads a 5-1 offense and does an exceptional job running her middles during fast rallies. These connections are particularly difficult to defend and take the offense to a higher level. Fadal is also aggressive shooting the ball to corners and back dumping, which makes her an all around threat anytime her hands are on the ball.
Wilks is a strong presence on the net and charges every opportunity to attack. She works hard in transition and always delivers a fast and loud approach. She’s a dominating middle and gives all out energy in everything she does.
Highlights
Morgan offensively connects well with Fadal and has her share of big swings, however, her block is lethal. Morgan’s quick reaction paired with a heavy press gives the Eagles a strong first line of defense. She’s a thorough and intentional player that brings a lot to the net.
Spahn is a force on the right side and puts a lot of speed in her swing. Her quick snap puts heat on the ball and makes a great sneak attack when Fadal reverses the ball to her.
Malia Martinez
Malia Martinez
Martinez is an all around player that has performed well as an OH and DS this season. She filled in as libero for the championship match and executed the job. Particularly, her serve receive kept the team in system most of the time. Martinez is a universal player and performed well under pressure in a new position.
Jacie Merideth
Jacie Merideth
Merideth is undeniably an athlete with a vertical and robust power. She’s explosive on the outside and puts the ball away with force. She nailed her attacks and took full advantage of splits in the opponent’s block.
