They will miss some key players from last season, but coach Driver is confident in her program and the players that will move up to fill positions. Lake Creek has become one of the premier 5A programs in the state of Texas, after just opening its doors in 2018. In those 4 years, the program has won 75 games. They are in an absolute gauntlet of a district, with opponents like Brenham, Magnolia, and College Station. Coach Driver says that the athletes are ready for the competition. Her seniors and returning varsity have already set the tone and culture for the fall.
If Lake Creek wants to repeat as district champions, they will have to rely heavily on a few key players. Payton Woods had 430 kills as a junior last season. Recently committed to Sam Houston State, Payton will be primed and ready to bring her offensive weapons back this fall. Another pin hitting option will be Ashlynn Kilgore Ashlynn Kilgore 5'10" | OH Lake Creek | 2024 TX who will have to step up into a bigger role this season. What I like about Ashlynn, is her improvements in her volleyball IQ and aggressiveness to hit every set. Lake Creek will need that offense moving into a tough district. Lauren Vickery Lauren Vickery 5'6" | DS/L Grand Oaks | 2023 TX will be getting a lot of attention from us this season as she will be returning indoors after playing sand volleyball for a while. She will provide a whole lot of ball control for the Lions. Not only can she pass, but she can hit as well.
Another ball control option will be returning senior defensive specialist Masie Riley, who had 355 digs last season. Right side/setter Kinzie Riley will get a lot more action this season as a sophomore. Standing at 5’10, she was able to earn a little playtime last year as a freshman setting and hitting. She has made improvements in her speed of the game in the offseason. She will pair really well with the seniority of setter Lauren Greene. Her tempo is unmatched, and she finds ways to make her hitters successful. Lauren has over 2,000 career assists, and has been a pivotal part in building Lake Creek’s program from the ground up.
Lake Creek will be in a brutal district, but it will prepare them for playoffs as they hope to repeat their deep run from last season. These seniors are not content with just making playoffs but want to make a run for state.
