Continue ReadingThe high school volleyball season is underway in the state of Texas and although the public school tournament organized by the University Interscholastic League (UIL) is earning most of the attention, there’s also been some great play coming from the Texas Association of Private and Parochial Schools (TAPPS).
Several of the best teams in the Houston area will be in action this week, when the Houston Skyline club will host the Houston Open 2022, a two-day season-opening tournament on Friday and Saturday that will reunite as many as 18 teams from the region.
This week, we’ve been presenting some of the most promising prospects that will be in action this week, and in today’s article, the last in the series, we’ll feature some of the liberos.
Chloe Davis
Chloe Davis
The dynamic Davis emerged as one of the best and most reliable liberos in the private system with her excellent play for St. John’s. She does a great job in reading plays and moving to the right spot, making her contact with the ball a lot smoother. She produced some huge numbers last season, tallying 319 passes, 322 passes and 48 aces.

The offense-heavy Episcopal team only works as smoothly as it does because of McMillian’s work on the backcourt. Her technical skills are extremely well-developed and she stands out for her ability to control the ball even when she’s not in the best possible position to make the dig. McMillian is also a very good and consistent server.
Kylie Bray
Kylie Bray
A national champion with her Texas Legacy club team, the 5’7″ Bray is the cornerstone of Concordia Lutheran’s backcourt. She has an excellent command of the game and is nearly flawless with her passing, especially with her discipline to get her body behind the ball every time she’s served. Her defense is also very good. Bray has 91 digs, 278 passes and 29 aces in her high school career.
Daniela Ramirez
Daniela Ramirez
Ramirez has emerged in the early days of the 2022 season as an interesting piece in Fort Bend Christian Academy’s stacked roster. She has fit in nicely in the team’s backcourt, adding an interesting level of stability with her game. She has produced 64 digs and 92 passes in just 20 sets.
Marimar Mendiburu
Marimar Mendiburu
Mendiburu’s high energy on the backcourt raises the level of play of the teams she plays. The 5’3″ defender is very active and does an excellent job with her defensive duties. Her defense is top-notch thanks to her quickness to react and her excellent ball control and she’s also a consistent and reliable passer.
