Lilly Tappel Lilly Tappel 5'10" | OH Providence | 2024 State IN , 5-11 OH, Providence
It stands to reason that I will miss a player or two over time. It happens, and no one is perfect. However, this is a MASSIVE error on my part, as Miss Tappel not only won the 16 American division at GJNCs in July, but she was named the MVP of the tournament. Lilly put everyone on notice over those four days, looking to be fully capable of her role as the primary-passing, six-rotation outside most coaches covet. Her stature does not do her justice; she can hit all shots with pace, and can terminate from anywhere at will. A quick 4-0 start to this high school season also put the rest of 3A on notice—they are the force to be reckoned with in the southern half of Indiana, hoping their last stop is at Worthen Arena in November.
Karis Bennett Karis Bennett 5'9" | OH Northwood | 2024 State IN , 5-9 OH, NorthWood
After an epic season helping the Panthers to both a conference title and a sectional title, Miss Bennett looks to extend NorthWood’s season even further this coming fall. A good start, with a win over Fort Wayne Bishop Luers in straight sets this past Saturday should help their goal. Karis can play either pin, be a primary passer or possibly a three-rotation pin attacker.
Mallorie Elliott Mallorie Elliott 5'8" | S Eastern Greene | 2024 State IN , 5-8 S, Bloomington North
Already running a faster-than-average offense, Mallory’s hands are soft and accurate, and can do most of it from any position the ball is passed to. Very deceptive with her hands high, she’s spent the majority of her career playing on a regional team, making her a prime “steal” candidate for a smaller school looking to shore up their setting position group, be part of a 6-2 offense, or run the whole thing by herself.
Grace King Grace King 5'9" | OH Lutheran | 2024 State IN , 5-9 OH, Indianapolis Lutheran
Heavy-armed and strong, Grace blasted away at the larger block this past Saturday as a left side, but could play any of the front row positions for a smaller school at the next level. I like her relentlessness, her work ethic, and always trying to find another option to put a ball away, even when thwarted multiple times. She’s also playing for the Class A Saints, making her a diamond-in-the-rough athlete for a small school. Her high school team should compete well beyond the sectional this fall.
Brooklyn Bell Brooklyn Bell 6'1" | MB Greenwood Community | 2024 State IN , 6-1 MB, Greenwood
Of the schools listed in this article, Miss Bell comes from a “non-volleyball” power, but don’t tell her that. This is their best team in years, and she should look to challenge Center Grove for the sectional title this fall. Brooklyn is long, lean, and thumps with authority. Miss Bell plays basketball, so her M1 skills behind the setter are no joke. She’s also tough to get past on defense, as her long arms make attackers alter their shot into errors or, better yet, straight to the floor after blocking them.
