Our first attempt at ranking members of the Class of 2025. Last year we built a watch list and kept adding to that list as the high school and club seasons carried on. Rankings are always tricky. We tend to rank based on current skill, ability, and potential. For these first rankings. The top player in the class was a no-brainer in RS Abigail Mullen Abigail Mullen 6'3" | RS Liberty | 2025 State #3 Nation MO . The top three players in the top 5 play up a division, so if you’re wondering who they are, there you go.
This isn’t an easy process and players get missed. Our friend at Prep Dig, Chris Fitzgerald posted a great article sharing what goes into our ranking system here. Our rankings don’t dictate future success as a volleyball player or person. These rankings are subjective, but we feel we are on the right track with the hours spent dedicated to this process.
1. Abigail Mullen Abigail Mullen 6'3" | RS Liberty | 2025 State #3 Nation MO – RS – Liberty/Dynasty
We already knew Mullen could terminate with the best of them but she took her game to a new level this year navigating the back row and showing off her skill level. She played up on the dynamic Dynasty 16 Black team. But she also played up on Team USA 19U team this summer and played a pivotal role in their success. She is not only the top player in the state but arguably in the country in this class.
2. Maya Witherspoon Maya Witherspoon 5'11" | OH Lafayette | 2025 State #44 Nation MO – OH – Lafayette/ Rockwood Thunder
Witherspoon is another player we’ve watched for a couple of years playing up on her Rockwood teams. An athletic pin who has grown her back row game, she is a player with even more upside. We knew she can score and her blocking has improved from 15s to 16s. She is a player to watch this fall for Lafayette.
3. Jordan Smith Jordan Smith 6'4" | OH Francis Howell Central | 2025 State #59 Nation MO – OH – Francis Howell Central/ Rockwood Thunder
Smith has all the size coaches love on the pin coming in at 6’3″. She is a terminal pin, who can score with the best of them. Her court awareness and shot selection was an area we saw her take a step up this spring. Her blocking is good and we also like how hard she’s worked last year in getting off the net into transition.
4. Reagan Nelson Reagan Nelson 6'0" | OH Pattonville | 2025 State #107 Nation MO – OH – Pattonville/ Rockwood Thunder
Nelson has game and the swagger that goes within for a go-to pin hitter. She isn’t afraid to go right at the block and knows when to toss in a little finesse to keep the defense honest. She is solid in serve receive and really good defensively. She earned MVP honors in the national division of the USAV championships.
5. Jenna Cubbage Jenna Cubbage 5'11" | MB Eureka | 2025 State MO – MB – Eureka/ Rockwood Thunder
Cubbage is one of those players we see even greater future potential in. She moves very well along the front row and does a good job with her spacing between the setter. She is good in front of the setter and saw her make strides behind on the slide. She was very dynamic at nationals grabbing a spot on the all-tournament team.
6. Brytn Lyon Brytn Lyon 6'1" | S St. Dominic | 2025 State MO – S – St. Dominic/ Rockwood Thunder
The first setter to jump into the rankings, Lyon was very good for the national champion Rockwood team in 2022. She is aware of the defense and puts her hitters in a position to be successful. She showed the ability to deliver some really good back sets from across the court. Her play earned her all-tournament honors at nationals.
7. Lily Paul Lily Paul 6'1" | OH Lutheran South | 2025 State MO – OH – Lutheran South/HPSTL
Paul has great size and will be another player who takes big steps as her strength develops. She consistently finds the open zones on the court with a mixture of shots. Her length makes her a very good blocker.
8. Danielle Moore Danielle Moore 6'2" | RS Francis Howell | 2025 State MO – RS – Francis Howell/ Rockwood Thunder
Moore is a powerful hitter on the RS and brings good size to the front row. She has great angles with her shots and knows how to end a rally. Her blocking is solid and she gets a lot of touches on balls.
9. Katherine St. John Katherine St. John 6'1" | OH Jackson | 2025 State MO – OH – Jackson/ Pursuit
St. John is a name many will become to know in the years to come. She doesn’t play on one of the more “known” teams but her play speaks for itself. If you get a chance to catch her in action, you will walk away impressed.
10. Hannah Leftridge Hannah Leftridge 5'10" | OH St. Pius X (Festus) | 2025 State MO – OH – St Pius Festus/HPSTL
Rounding out our top 10 in Leftridge. As you see, our rankings our pin heavy right now and it’s because she’s another one who can make things happen on the outside. She is one of the better defenders on the pin having been a former libero. At 5’9″, she may project there at the next level but having a full tool-kit of skill sets is what makes her a really good player.
