There were 68 of the most talented teams from across the state competing in this awesome tournament. This is widely regarded as the toughest tournament in the nation. It proved to be one fantastic weekend of competition for everyone. I was super happy to have been there in person to witness the best battle the best. There were some amazing players from many teams who stood out for many reasons. Let’s take a look at all of the players who were standouts.
Mikala Young Mikala Young 6'0" | OH Prestonwood Christian Academy | 2024 State #48 Nation TX [2024] 5-11 Outside (HS: Prestonwood Christian/Club: Texas Advantage /Verbal: Uncommitted)
Mikala is currently ranked as the 15th best overall prospect and the 6th best left side pin hitter in the 2024 Class according to our Prep Dig Texas State Rankings. She is the six-rotation stud for Prestonwood Christian high school and also for the Texas Advantage Volleyball program. This young lady was stellar in every aspect of the game to say the least. She is afraid of no one on the other side of the net and it seems as if she was made for the big stage. If the game is on the line, she is definitely one person who I would trust in any situation. I have been lucky enough to watch her in person for the past couple of years and she keeps getting better each time. Miss Young is super consistent and you know that you will get a true warrior in every match. I watched her play exceptional defense and take huge swings for Prestonwood all tournament long.
Alice Volpe Alice Volpe 5'5" | DS/L Bridgeland | 2024 State #83 Nation TX [2024] 5-5 Libero (HS: Bridgeland/Club: Houston Juniors /Verbal: Uncommitted)
Alice is currently ranked as the 16th best overall prospect in the 2024 class according to our Prep Dig Texas State Rankings. She stars on the in the back row for Bridgeland high school and also for the Houston Juniors Volleyball program. Bridgeland definitely has their fair share of attackers who stand out, but their team’s success is predicated on one thing…defense. This team’s defense rarely lets a ball hit the floor and Alice is the leader of them all in the back row leading by example. She is not one of the better liberos in her district…she is one of the best liberos in the entire state of Texas. Miss Volpe was amazing to watch against such great attackers as she dug hard driven balls with ease and tracked down errant balls with no problems. She has such a soft natural touch on the ball and super quick footwork that is always balanced. She is one of the main reasons why Bridgeland is so tough to beat.
Camille Edwards Camille Edwards 5'11" | S Prestonwood Christian | 2024 State #95 Nation TX [2024] 5-11 Setter (HS: Prestonwood Christian/Club: Texas Advantage /Verbal: Michigan)
Camille is currently ranked as the 23rd best overall prospect in the 2024 class in the according to our Prep Dig Texas State Rankings. She plays at Prestonwood Christian High School and also the Texas Advantage club program. There are setters and then there are extensions of their coaches. Camille is definitely one person that you can trust to make the right play in every situation. Her volleyball IQ is off the charts and you can see it when you watch her play. She does not get rattled during difficult times and is strong enough to push the ball to every location from anywhere on the court. I love how accurate she is with her serving as it is definitely a weapon that any team she is on uses to its advantage. She plays like a fifth-year senior or a player/coach who has been playing for twenty years. This much experience in a player is amazing to have. I was very impressed with her level of play against every team I watched them compete against.
