Carl Albert Tournament
We are going to get to see some very interesting rematches between some teams that have already seen each other just last week.
- Bishop McGuinness
- OCS
- Carl Albert
- Coweta
- Shawnee
- Newcastle
- PC West
- Midwest City
Bishop McGuinness is rumored to be dropping back down into class 5A. They will likely be in the top 3 all year long. They will be the overall top seed in the tournament and rightfully so. Behind dynamic players in Grace Smallwood Grace Smallwood 5'7" | OH Bishop McGuiness | 2023 State OK and Rachel Tate Rachel Tate 5'11" | RS Bishop McGuinness | 2023 State OK . Greer DeLeon Greer DeLeon 5'10" | OH Bishop McGuinness | 2025 State OK stood out when I got to see them at our home scrimmage a few weeks ago. Look for this team to make a splash early this season.
OCS started the year with a really strong 2 matches. They got warmed up with PC North then came in hot with a big sweep against the 5A state runner up, Carl Albert. They will likely get two more wins this week prior to the tournament. Im excited to see the rematch with them and Carl Albert. The Titans will be fired up to get revenge.
Carl Albert has arguably the best setter in the state with Emily Boyer Emily Boyer 5'11" | S Carl Albert | 2023 State OK . Here is the thing that I think sets her apart from a lot of players, she is a phenomenal teammate. She waits for someone to sub in just to give a word of encouragement and a high five. You just don’t see that very often. They had some great matches this past weekend in Coweta. They were able to work through some early struggles and will look to get back on track. Madison Stuart and Emily Boyer Emily Boyer 5'11" | S Carl Albert | 2023 State OK both received all tournament this past weekend.
Coweta mat not be the most vertically gifted team but I promise they will likely outwork you. They are always flying around, diving for balls, being loud, and never giving up. That comes from a quality leader such as head coach, Tony Ramos.
Shawnee lost an all state player and fell one match short of going to state last season. They will have some quality match ups here in Bishop McGuinness and Coweta to prove they are ready to take a step forward.
Newcastle will look to their top player, Kacie Townsend Kacie Townsend 5'11" | OH Newcastle | 2025 State OK , to make big plays and lead them into plenty of upset opportunities.
Putnam City West will look to cause a little chaos as a 6A team. Coach Thompson and crew are my pick to snag an early year upset.
Midwest City will look to pick up some early wins as new head coach, Tabitha McCray, has started setting a new culture and attitude.
Jaguar Invitational
This will be a nice mix of 5A and 6A teams. Toss in the best homeschool team in the state and you have the makings for a lot of solid volleyball.
- Mt. St. Mary
- OKC Storm
- Moore
- WestMoore
- Norman
- Putnam City North
- Piedmont
- Owasso
MSM is and will be the favorite to win class 5A….again. With Livia Ward Livia Ward 5'11" | S Mount. St. Mary | 2025 State OK , Ally Fees Ally Fees 5'11" | OH Mt. St. Mary | 2024 State OK , Avery Moses Avery Moses 5'5" | DS/L Mt. St. Mary | 2024 State OK , and Jane Ertl Jane Ertl 6'0" | MB Mount St. Mary | 2023 State OK all returning, they will be a very seasoned group who already knows what it takes to get to the big dance.
OKC Storm is the states best homeschool volleyball program. They regularly play tough competition and win. Players like Kady Hansen Kady Hansen 6'3" | MB OKC Storm | 2023 State OK and Emma Ringer can really turn the tide of matches when they are playing well.
Moore is one of my favorite teams. They seem to have something not many teams do and that’s a fantastic culture. A leader like Sara Freeman Sara Freeman 5'10" | OH Moore | 2023 State OK that is constantly praising her teammates even though she is one the best players on the team herself. They have really bought into coach Travis’ plan and future.
Westmoore will have home court advantage this tournament. They will look to continue to climb up and finish high in their own tournament. Look for Gracelyn Skaggs Gracelyn Skaggs 5'6" | DS/L Westmoore | 2024 State OK to help boost them.
Norman surprised me on how they finished last weekend in their home tournament. They fought tooth and nail with each opponent. They made teams really earn each win. Look for them to continue that trend this weekend. I predict they get an upset and go to the gold bracket.
Putnam City North finished just under .500 last season. Here is a great opportunity for them to get some wins under their belt early in the season.
Piedmont is the real deal folks. They are a hard working group that looks hungry for a win each match. Aleeyah Hamblin Aleeyah Hamblin 5'10" | MB Piedmont | 2023 State OK and Kaylie Marshall Kaylie Marshall 5'10" | OH Piedmont | 2023 State OK has some of the best control on the ball, especially this early in the season. They are looking mid season form already.
Owasso finished last season at state with, in my opinion, as the best game of the entire state tournament. They battled hard with Bishop Kelley in the first round. This will be a big test if they are planning to compete in the FVC and make their way back to the state tournament.
This season is going to be amazing! Lets keep the matches rolling.
