We are, as usual, centering our coverage around promoting the most intriguing prospects around the state with articles that will highlight their standout performances and statistical milestones and also team features.
As much as possible, we’ll also try to every Tuesday and Friday preview an interesting match that’s set to happen around the state, pointing out the most impressive prospects that will be on the court in that encounter. For Tuesday, September 6, our eyes will be on the duel between the Azle Hornets (17-13) and the Keller Central Chargers (21-10) that will begin at 5.30 PM.
Azle
Makenna Dillow
Makenna Dillow
The senior libero has been arguably Azle’s best player so far in the season as she’s been nothing short of spectacular in handling her backcourt duties in the first month of the team’s campaign. The 5’8″ Dillow covers a lot of ground on serve-receive, is always well-positioned on defense and does an excellent job in covering her hitters at the net. Coming from a career-high 45 digs against Springtown just a couple of weeks ago, Dillow leads the entire country in digs according to MaxPreps with 653 – nearly a full hundred more than the second-placed. She’s also been tremendously productive with her passing (654) and serving (43 aces), ranking first in her team on both categories.
Brynn Lee
Brynn Lee
The six-rotation pin hitter has been putting on an excellent season so far, using her well-developed game to help her team in a variety of different areas. The 5’9″ Lee is the Hornets’ leading scorer so far, but also plays a key role in the team’s defensive system with her tremendous ball control and understanding of the game. Lee currently ranks first in kills (157), second in passes (297) and third in digs (155) in the team, being the only player in the squad to appear in the top three in these skills.
Karlee Locke

Locke is doing a great job in making an impact at the net despite normally facing much taller opponents in the middle. Her long arms and quick feet certainly help, but it’s her great reading of the game and excellent timing on offense and blocking that make of her such an efficient player. Also a talented basketball player, Locke ranks second in kills, just behind Lee, with 143, and leads the team in blocks with 53.
Keller Central
The 6’1″ Wells has been thriving in her dual role of playing as an outside hitter at the net and a setter in some backcourt rotations for Keller Central. Very long and skilled, she’s been the team’s leading scorer, while also excelling with her playmaking and playing excellent defense. Wells has tallied 323 kills, 246 assists, 137 digs, 104 passes, 34 aces and 32 blocks already in the season.
Jaylani Evans
Jaylani Evans
The explosive Evans has been huge for the Chargers this season too. An incredible leaper, she plays a lot higher than her 5’6″ frame and is a handful for opposing blockers to deal with at the net. Also capable of playing as a setter, she’s very technically sound and thrives on the backcourt as well. Evans leads the team in digs (192) and aces (36) and ranks second in kills (166) and passes (255).
Faith Macharia
Faith Macharia
The 5’11” Macharia adds a lot of physicality to Keller Central down the middle. Also a wrestling student-athlete, she’s as athletic as it gets and does an excellent job in using her physical tools to thrive on a volleyball court. Macharia is strong, moves and jumps well and also has excellent timing at the net. She ranks third in kills (104) and first in blocks (56) with the team.
