We are, as usual, centering our coverage around promoting the most intriguing prospects around the state with articles that will highlight their standout performances and statistical milestones and also team features.
As much as possible, we’ll also try to every Tuesday and Friday preview an interesting match that’s set to happen around the state, pointing out the most impressive prospects that will be on the court in that encounter. On Friday, September 9, we’ll head to El Paso, where the Eastlake Falcons (13-9) will go against the Montwood Rams (14-4) at 6.20 PM.
Eastlake

Jaelynn Kohli
After making a big impact last year as a freshman, Kohli is back playing at an even higher level for Eastlake this season. She has been a force in the middle, especially on offense, and has already produced 134 kills, 22 digs and 12 blocks. Kohli will enter the match coming from her second-best scoring performance of the season, on Tuesday, when she led the Falcons to victory against Hanks with 14 kills and one block.
Cecilia Bustamante
Cecilia Bustamante
Another sophomore playing a big role with the Falcons, the dynamic Bustamante is in charge of coordinating the team’s defensive efforts as Eastlake’s starting libero. She’s been tremendously productive so far in the season, leading the squad in digs (123), passes (188) and aces (13). She contributed with 14 digs and 16 passes on Tuesday against Hanks.

Kaitlyn Salgado
Eastlake’s trio of talented sophomores is completed by Salgado, who’s been doing an excellent job for the team at the pin, following up on a very good freshman campaign last year. She’s a player who’s capable of helping the team on both sides of the ball and that’s certainly what her total stats of 111 kills, 80 digs and 116 passes indicate she’s doing. She produced 11 kills and nine digs in the team’s most recent match.
Montwood

Danielle Varela
Varela’s remarkable presence in the middle has been a strength for Montwood this season. Very long and athletic, she’s been dominating the net with her play and being an extremely impactful player for the Rams. The 5’10” Varela leads the team in kills (128) and blocks (43) and had 11 spikes and three stuffs in their sweep of Loretto on Tuesday.

Bianca Sierra
The skilled libero has been leading the team from the backcourt in her junior season. Very active and talented, the 5’7″ Sierra, who can also play as a setter, has an excellent reading of the game and outstanding ball control. She’s currently at 119 digs, 148 passes and 11 aces for the season and recently had a 24-dig showing against Franklin.
Kennedy Garcia
Kennedy Garcia
One of just a few seniors on Montwood’s squad for the season, Garcia is leading the team from the setter position. She’s been doing an excellent job with her playmaking, having tallied already 439 assists for the season, averaging north of ten per set. Also capable of playing as a defensive specialist, Garcia has been solid on the backcourt as well, ranking second in the team in digs with 78. She’s also Montwood’s leading server with 15 aces.
