Here at PrepDig, we are committed to covering and promoting as many prospects as possible, from the most popular names to the hidden gems that typically abound at the Lone Star State and during the high school season we’re also doing it by featuring the teams they play at.
Every time we’re at the gym, we take the time to give a good look at the teams on the court and we’ll try to feature as many as possible here in this space. Let’s now take a look at the MacArthur Generals.
The Squad
The Generals had a strong 2021 season, with their first district title in 39 years, but have a big challenge in front of them to repeat it with the graduations of Jasmine Rutledge and Aaliyah Callaway and the transfer of Emeli Muagututi’a to Ridge Point. Some of the team’s top players in 2022 will be Jessika Martinez, Natalie Gammage and Renata Rebolledo.
Key Players
Jessika Martinez
Jessika Martinez
A long and athletic prospect, Martinez grew into a larger role with the team in 2022. Also capable of playing in the middle, she’s a very good offensive player and is set quite often, no matter if she’s at the net or the backcourt. She has a lot of physical power, but is also quite resourceful in her side-out game. Martinez is also well-versed on the backcourt and is a very solid blocker.
Natalie Gammage
Natalie Gammage
Gammage is another six-footer that brings a lot of size and power to MacArthur at the net. She has good size, length and a heavy right arm. Gammage, who can also play on the right, often hits a little bit of a slower set in the middle, but she’s pretty effective at it. She’s also very active at the net and is extremely mobile when moving to shut opponents down.
Renata Rebolledo
Renata Rebolledo
A very active player on the backcourt, Rebolledo provides great stability to MacArthur on the backcourt. She’s such a hard worker on the defensive side of the game and is a player that never gives up on a play. Her reaction speed is really impressive and she does a good job with her ball control as well. Rebolledo is also fairly versatile, as she eventually takes on setting duties with the team.
Gabriela Ruiz
Gabriela Ruiz
Ruiz’s technically sound game allows her to play different positions on the court. She’s been spending more time as MacArthur’s primary setter this season, but will also drop back and be a part of the team’s serve-receive system eventually. As a setter, she runs a fairly simple, yet efficient offense, which prioritizes getting the team’s main hitters in a position to score. She’s also a productive defensive player.
Nicole Rebolledo
Nicole Rebolledo
Renata’s sister Nicole is also a frequently-used player in MacArthur’s rotation. A lefty, she plays on the right and has some interesting power on her arm, despite being a little undersized. She’s also a good server and contributes to the team with her passing and defense and is a hustler on the backcourt.
