Here at PrepDig, we are committed to covering and promoting as many prospects as possible, from the most popular names to the hidden gems that typically abound at the Lone Star State and during the high school season we’re also doing it by featuring the teams they play at.
Every time we’re at the gym, we take the time to give a good look at the teams on the court and we’ll try to feature as many as possible here in this space. Our selected team this time is the Oak Ridge War Eagles.
The Squad
The War Eagles enter the season with solid players from every class, such as senior Caroline Woodfill, junior Luvina Oguntimehin, sophomore Bradi Rhodes and freshman Gaby Santiago. They did, however, lose several seniors from their last campaign, most notably setter Avery Fowler, middle blocker Ellie Davis and outside hitter Darian Lowden.
Key Players
Luvina Oguntimehin
Luvina Oguntimehin
Easily Oak Ridge’s most physical player, the 6’1″ Oguntimehin offers the team a solid presence down the middle. Besides having long arms, she also jumps well, which gives her excellent reach when hitting or blocking. Oguntimehin has tremendous potential because of her physical tools and she’s nearly unstoppable when hitting a one-footed, shoot-set near the left pin. Her blocking timing is also very good.
Caroline Woodfill
Caroline Woodfill
A transfer from Willis, Woodfill has strengthened Oak Ridge this season with her backcourt skills and senior leadership. The 5’4″ libero masters the backcourt and benefits from her great positioning to make a lot of plays on defense. Extremely precise with her passes and digs, Woodfill has recently surpassed 1,000 digs in her high school career. She is also a very good server.
Bradi Rhodes
Bradi Rhodes
Rhodes plays way taller than her 5’6″ frame as she has great importance to her Oak Ridge team. Very technical and intelligent, she does a very good job with her ball distribution and the location of her sets. Even if Rhodes decides to set against the flow, the ball will be exactly where her hitter needs it to be. She’s also a solid defensive player.
Gaby Santiago
Gaby Santiago
A freshman, Santiago has made an immediate impact on Oak Ridge’s offense with her scoring ability. She’s still raw in some aspects, but has tremendous potential to develop into a great player. Santiago has excellent physical tools, being long and athletic, which leads to a combination of good reach and power when she goes up to hit. She’s also a solid server.
Kennedy Mills
Kennedy Mills
Playing opposite to Santiago on Oak Ridge’s lineup, Mills offers a skillset that complements hers very well. Shorter and more technical, she does an excellent job on the backcourt while also finding smart solutions to score with her technical game at the net. Her steadiness and consistency are also important assets to the team.
