Now that preseason is officially over, teams are competing with more consistent lineups and new energy as district unfolds. Prep Dig was able to watch 5A Crosby at a home match to kickoff District 17. The Cougars added new faces to the program, and one in particular is making a big impact. From speaking with Head Coach Marissa Simmons, there is a strong bond between teammates that’s fueling their energy and confidence this season.
Below are top players from Crosby’s district opener match.
Highlights
Valt is the offensive leader for Crosby and has been swinging between middle and outside. She’s effective in both positions, however, she’s able to take more control of the game as a pin. No stranger to higher level volleyball, she executed a fair share of good shots against a talented Barbers Hill team. Only a sophomore, Valt is a solid player that’s hard to forget on the Cougar squad.
Victoria Grace
Victoria Grace
Grace was a blocking machine on Friday night. Moving well pin to pin, she had at least 3-4 stuff blocks that amped up the Cougar energy to almost win the second set. In addition, she overpowered several jousts to finish some solid rally play. What better way to lead your senior season than big blocks and fiery celebrations?
Carli Brogan
Carli Brogan
Brogan is a “jack of all trades” as a versatile player. She has experience playing multiple positions most of her career, but has settled recently in the libero jersey. Brogan has solid form and never ending hustle, making her a defensive leader this fall. Being seasoned in several positions has made her a well-rounded asset.
Emma Hattaway
Emma Hattaway
Hattaway is a new transfer from Baytown Christian Academy (BCA). Like Brogan, she’s flexible in lineups as a pin, middle and/or setter. Regardless where she is on the court, one thing is for certain: her energy is infectious. Hattaway is loudly vocal, cheers big, and leads with spirit for Crosby.
