We are, as usual, centering our coverage around promoting the most intriguing prospects around the state with articles that will highlight their standout performances and statistical milestones and also team features.
As much as possible, we’ll also try to every Tuesday and Friday preview an interesting match that’s set to happen around the state, pointing out the most impressive prospects that will be on the court in that encounter. Our highlighted match for Tuesday, September 20, is the one reuniting the O’Connor Panthers (30-4) and the Sotomayor Wildcats (16-13), starting at 5.30 PM in the San Antonio area.
O’Connor

Kelli Fording
An extremely technical player, the 5’9″ Fording has emerged as O’Connor’s top scorer in her senior season with the Panthers. Very solid on the backcourt, she’s also been productive at the net, playing a central role in the team’s playing system. She enters tonight’s match with 330 kills, 31 aces, 116 digs and 73 passes.
One of the most talented setters in her class in the entire state, Garza is once again doing a great job while running O’Connor’s offense. With her excellent ball distribution and proficiency in the backcourt, she’s a point of stability for her team. Garza recently surpassed 1,000 career assists, 490 of which this season, to go with 205 digs and 42 aces.
An extremely talented and mobile player, Chavez has been O’Connor’s defensive rock, leading the team’s defensive efforts masterfully this season. The 5’7″ libero is one of the best in her class and does a great job of stabilizing the team’s backcourt. Her season production of 534 digs, 354 passes and 24 aces is among the best for players in her position in the entire state so far.
Sotomayor
Capable of playing as an outside hitter or a right side, Tolentino has been a force at the net for Sotomayor so far in the season. A potent hitter and an intelligent and technical blocker, she makes a great impact in the game with her length and athleticism. Tolentino currently leads the Wildcats in kills (218) and blocks (26).

A transfer from Harlan, Gregory-Obiedo added an interesting level of firepower to Sotomayor, proving to be a player capable of sharing the offensive load with Tolentino. She’s also versatile, being able to play on either side of the net at the same high level. A very complete player, she has tallied 214 kills, 14 aces, 127 digs and 293 passes so far in the season.

A dynamic and intelligent defensive player, Soliz is a foundational piece in Sotomayor’s playing system with her excellent first contact and her ability to give the team extra opportunities to score in transition. A positive and focused player, she impacts the game in more than one way from the backcourt. This season, Soliz has already produced 310 digs, 520 passes and 34 aces for the Wildcats.
