Perryville Tournament Preview

Perryville puts together a solid tournament each year, and this year appears to be no different. You have four top Class 1 teams, four MAAA conference teams, and a couple of large class teams. The tournament's winner will come out battle-tested for state playoffs later this month.   Pool A   Ste. Genevieve – Pool Winner   Advance – Runner Up   Scott City   Kingston   Dru Koetting and Arie Taylor guide the Dragons to a first-place finish while [player_tooltip player_id='168900' first='Alexis' last='Hoffman'] helps Advance finish 2nd.   Pool B   Fredericktown – Pool Winner   Dexter – Runner Up   Meadow Heights   Perryville   The Black Cats have been on a roll and will continue that behind the hitting of Linley Rehkop and Ryliegh Gresham. Dexter and Fredericktown split the previous meeting, and Carly Long and [player_tooltip player_id='170038' first='Kate' last='Nichols'] cause trouble for Fredericktown as the two teams split, with the Black Cats getting the pool winner.   Pool C   Bernie – Runner Up   Cape Central   South Iron – Pool Winner   Doniphan   [player_tooltip player_id='168915' first='Drew' last='Gayle'] and [player_tooltip player_id='168914' first='Maddie' last='Ayers'] have no issues in this pool and giving the panthers the sweep. Bernie battles for 2nd and gets big play from Kealea Powell and Rylie Powell to squeak into the gold bracket.   Pool D   Lesterville – Pool Winner   Hillsboro – Runner Up   North County   Ellington   The senior trio of [player_tooltip player_id='123465' first='Reese' last='Gray'], [player_tooltip player_id='168921' first='Piper' last='Fitzgerald'], and [player_tooltip player_id='152153' first='Grace' last='Hicks'] will get their last chance at winning the Perryville Tournament and start with 1st in Pool D. Hillsboro takes 2nd behind the hitting of [player_tooltip player_id='150026' first='Phoenix' last='Dean'] and Jada Cochran.   Pool E   Saxony Lutheran – Pool Winner   Notre Dame Saint Louis   Winona – Runner Up   Clearwater   Taylor Osborne, Bailee Luttrell and [player_tooltip player_id='152145' first='Nevaeh' last='Malawey'] still hot from the 4 set win over Lesterville get a split with Saxony but the Crusaders get the nod for first in the pool. Saxony finally suffered its first defeat to Ste. Genevieve in 5, but Clara Brune and Josey Wahlers give the Crusaders over Winona in this pool.   Gold Bracket Play-In Games   2B) Dexter 10-4-1   Vs.   2C) Bernie 9-7-3   Dexter takes care of the youth at Bernie to win in 2.   2A) Advance 8-3   Vs.   2D) Hillsboro 8-9-2   Advance is a little much for the Hawks and wins in 3.   Gold Bracket Quarterfinals   1A) Ste. Genevieve 13-2-2   Vs.   2B) Dexter 10-4-1   The Dragons get the win in 2.   1E) Saxony Lutheran 13-1-1   Vs.   1D) Lesterville 13-2   Saxony and Lesterville battle the distance, and the Crusaders win it in 3.   1C) South Iron 10-4-3   Vs.   2A) Advance   South Iron uses a more balanced offense to take the Hornets out in 2 close matches.   2E) Winona 15-2-2   Vs.   1B) Fredericktown 13-2-1   Winona keeps the hot start alive with a 3 set battle with the Black Cats.   Gold Bracket Semifinals   1A) Ste. Genevieve 13-2-2   Vs.   1E) Saxony Lutheran 13-1-1   Saxony gets revenge in 3 to advance to its second tournament championship.   1C) South Iron   Vs.   2E) Winona 15-2-2   Battle of Class 1 powers goes 3, with Winona keeping the hot streak alive and advancing to the finals.   Gold Bracket Championship   1E) Saxony Lutheran 13-1-1   Vs.   2E) Winona 15-2-2   Both teams have been playing solid volleyball all season, but Saxony comes out on top in the finals with a 2-0 win.
