With a new coaching staff and winning record, the Panthers have their sights set on a successful year. Coaches Tawny Halsteadt and Ashley Dempsay are pushing players to increase focus and intentional play. In doing so, Anahuac aims to finish at the top of their district and make a dent in post season. The Panthers strive to make this year impactful and grow the program into a respected name for seasons to come.
Below are six Panther standouts.
Makiyah Richardson
Makiyah Richardson
Richardson is a junior middle holding her own in six rotations. As an explosive attacker, she makes a statement in her approach and finishes with smart placement. She earns her playing time as an all-around middle playing gritty defense. Richardson is an easy outlet for back row attacks as she’s crushed pipes this season.
Zoe Moore
Zoe Moore
Moore is easily considered a workhorse and brings a whole new level to work ethic as a libero. It’s tough to score a tip or dump against her coverage. Moore’s serve receive is dependable and solid. She is a relentless hustler and will run down any ball.
Meg Kruezer
Meg Kruezer
Kruezer stands out for her height and lengthy appearance. She towers a bit over most competition in the smaller school setting. With this being said, her block is an obvious threat and an exciting development this season. If things get rocky in serve receive, she’s a reliable option to pull back. Only a sophomore, Kruezer will be a standout leader and performer as she continues to grow.
Becca Dehoyos
Becca Dehoyos
DeHoyos is an essential component to the Panther squad as a senior setter. She’s an all-around athlete, competitive, and natural leader. Making her last high school season count, DeHoyos has focused on smart setting decisions and dumping strategically. It’s clear she’s the glue for this team, and she’s giving it her all this season.
Maggie Stephenson
Maggie Stephenson
Stevenson is another senior bringing a wealth of experience and dependability as a six-rotation pin. She brings obvious power, but her line shot really adds flair to the offense. Outside of her skill, her energy on the court is unmatched. Stevenson’s ability to uplift her teammates goes unnoticed.
Abby Foster
Abby Foster
Foster is a young setter but impactful. She’s dependable in the front and back row, making her a six-rotation option. Foster is mentally sharp, and even better, stays collected in tight moments. She is the strongest server and depended on to keep opponents out of system from the serving line.
