We will be highlighting a few teams that have a chance to do something very special this year if it all works out. Today we bring our attention to the Aledo Bearkats out of District 5-5A.
The Lady Bearkats are currently 19-13 on the young season and have a wealth of lethal scorers to put them in the running for a long run in the UIL state playoff chase. We have written about some of these players before and here is a little from our recent articles about them if you need to remember who they are:
Vivian Parker Vivian Parker 6'0" | OH Aledo | 2024 State #52 Nation TX [2024] 6-0 Outside (HS: Aledo/Club: Drive Nation/Verbal: Uncommitted)
Vivian is currently ranked as the 46th best overall overall prospect according to our National Rankings. She is also listed as the 10th best prospect overall in the 2024 Class according to our Prep Dig Texas State Rankings. She is a wonderful six-rotation pin hitter from Aledo High School and she also plays for the Drive Nation volleyball program. We have covered Miss Parker for the past couple of years now and she still continues to dominate on the court. I nicknamed her the “Black Widow” because she is an assassin on the pins. This youngster racks up kills in a hurry and no one has been able to stop her. She was nominated for an All-State award last year and is on pace for another stellar season so far as she is one of the leaders in many stats on her squad. I love watching Viv play because she takes direction well from her coaches and always pumps up her teammates during the matches. She is one big reason why Aledo is having a great year and is high on many publications’ rankings.
Lauryn Mack Lauryn Mack 5'11" | OH Aledo | 2025 State #111 Nation TX [2025] 5-10 Outside (HS: Aledo/Club: Drive Nation/Verbal: Uncommitted)
Lauryn is currently ranked as the 17th best overall prospect in the 2025 class according to our Prep Dig Texas State Rankings. Miss Mack has been a great addition to the Aledo High School program after leaving All Saints Episcopal. She also plays club for the Drive Nation volleyball program. I wrote an article on her after watching her team capture the Bronze medal at Nationals this summer and here is a refresher of what I stated about her, ”This young lady was a beast on the court over the four days of competition. There were times where she was unstoppable at the net. It was like her arm swing kept getting faster as the competition got better. She has that famous Kobe Bryant “Mamba Mentality” in which she loves the competition. That is what I see when I watch her dominate on the volleyball court. There are moments in every match when Lauryn takes over and no one is going to stop her from scoring for her squad.” She has been a wrecking ball for the Bearkats offense so far this year. She currently leads the team in kills as a sophomore and that means district foes will have to worry about her dominance for the next couple of years. It is scary because she is just now getting started at this level. The future is very bright for this elite attacker.
Alyssa Gonzales [2023] 6-1 Outside (HS: Aledo/Club: Synergy Force/Verbal: TCU)
Alyssa is currently an unranked prospect in the 2023 class according to the Prep Dig Texas State Rankings because she just transferred from California and we have not updated her into the rankings yet. Miss Gonzalez plays at Aledo High School and also played club for Synergy Force out of Cali. She is already committed to TCU and has been one of the kill leaders for Aledo so far in this young season. This young lady can play all the way around and be a force in any aspect of the game. She is a stud in the back row and can dig like a libero. Aledo ahs been using her in many different aspects on the front row with swings on the right side and also bringing her in for high tempo middle sets, which she crushes with ease. She has great court vision and sees the openings in a defense while she is in the air. This allows her to score in a variety of ways with pushes to the deep corners or sharp angle toward where the block is coming from. Alyssa has a great feel for the game and you see it when you watch her play.
This team has some other notable players that are helping them stay in the hunt for a crown. Senior middle Maddie Frank has been super efficient as an attacker and leads the team in total blocks on defense. Junior setter Rylee Metts has been stellar dishing the ball to her wonderful attackers. Senior libero Mia Little steadies the ship in the back row and has been phenomenal in keeping the ball in play. Overall this team is one to watch for when it comes to the 5A UIL race. It may be their year and I feel something special is happening in Aledo.
