We will be highlighting a few teams that have a chance to do something very special this year if it all works out. Today we bring our attention to the Lake Travis Cavaliers out of District 26-6A.
The Cavaliers are currently 28-10 overall and a perfect 8-0 in district so far on the young season. They have a solid core of upperclassmen who have very little weaknesses in their game. They don’t make a lot of errors and it has led to dominance this year. They might be flying a little under the radar with some other teams who have gotten a majority of coverage by the media, but we know exactly who they have on their roster to show they belong in the discussion. We have written about some of these players before and here is a little from our recent articles about them if you need to remember who they are:
Kacey Kazmierski Kacey Kazmierski 6'0" | S Lake Travis | 2024 State TX [2024] 5-10 Setter (HS: Lake Travis/Club: Austin Juniors/Verbal: Uncommitted)
Kacey is currently an unranked prospect according to our Prep Dig Texas State Rankings, but is on my watch list from what I saw during the club season and her production during this high school season. She plays for Lake Travis High School and also for the nationally recognized Austin Juniors volleyball. She popped onto my radar after watching her club team double qualify for nationals. She was instrumental in moving the ball around in their six-two offense. She has taken the reigns for her high school squad and has been equally as dangerous dishing dimes to her attackers. She is like a surgeon slicing her way through opponents defenses. She is not afraid to pull the trigger and deliver both quick tempo sets and also distribute to her opposite for kills. Great setters can make any hitter look good and that is exactly what you get with Miss Kazmierski. She is one to watch for if you are looking for a general to lead your roster to victory.
Logan Brannan [2023] 6-0 Outside (HS: Lake Travis/Club: Austin Juniors/Verbal: Notre Dame)
Logan is currently an unranked prospect in the 2023 class according to our Prep Dig Texas State Rankings, but should have no problem making the cut when I update them soon. She plays at Lake Travis High School and for Austin Juniors Volleyball. This young lady has a perfect frame for volleyball and is built for attacking and blocking at the net. She excels at attacking and can easily move the ball around any block at will. I love how it doesn’t matter which side the block sets up on her, because she can turn in mid-air and also use solid hand contact to hit around it. She does a great job of going “thumb up or thumb down” on the ball at contact. Both her club team and her high school squad can utilize her on either side of the setter to score. This kind of versatility is key to keeping a balanced offense and that is what Lake Travis has with Miss Brannan.
Avery Hamlin Avery Hamlin 6'1" | OH Lake Travis | 2024 State TX [2024] 6-1 Outside/Right Side (HS: Lake Travis/Club: Austin Juniors/Verbal: Uncommitted)
Miss Skopal is currently ranked as the 6th best overall player and the top setter in the 2024 Class according to our Prep Dig Texas State Rankings. She plays at Rouse HS and also club for Austin Juniors. Avery is a true slash player meaning that she can play a multitude of positions on the court at a very high level. She has soft hands and a great understanding of how to set every location. She can also pass serve at an elite level and attack/ block with the best of them. This kind of ball control in every aspect of the game is key to Lake Travis’ success. Avery is a scorer by nature and has been prolific at it since she was younger. She has a very high contact point, which makes it very difficult for anyone to stop her offensive barrage. The power she possesses is unleashed at every swing. We are excited for what she is doing during her junior season and cannot wait to see how it turns out.
Other notable players for this awesome squad are junior middle Carrington Jaimes. Senior libero Emily Contreras is having a solid year in the back row and keeps her squad in every rally with her play. Seniors Brooke Davis and Kendall Jurgens Kendall Jurgens 6'1" | MB Lake Travis | 2023 #117 Nation TX are putting up a wall at the net and blocking everything that comes their way. This team is solid and has a great shot at competing for a deep run in the playoffs. Stay tuned to see how they finish up!
