You have been grinding day in and day out and spent countless hours preparing for these last few years of high school ball. We have seen some monster swings, amazing saves, and outright athleticism on all sides of the ball. Below we will dive into 8 upperclassmen who have caught our eye.
Morgan Warren Morgan Warren 5'7" | S Hendrickson | 2024 State TX – Junior – Hendrickson
Setter Morgan Warren Morgan Warren 5'7" | S Hendrickson | 2024 State TX has really come into her own this season. Her release is so smooth and fast, she makes it hard to read her as a blocker. She is able to dish out quick sets to her middles or get a fast outside ball to one of her many pin-hitting options. She also has a great verticle and often gets blocks and touches. She can go up and get a really tight set and make it work with no problem.
Carrie Weston – Junior – Stony Point
Carrie Weston is gaining traction this year for her stellar all-around performance for Stony Point. She just recently tagged 16 kills against a very good Vadegrift team. She has a very nice snap on the ball and can rip the ball line. She’s not the tallest outside around, but her ball control more than makes up for it. She will often grab double-digit digs each game along with her offensive responsibilities.
Kyra Dove – Senior- Hendrickson
Kyra Dove has an amazing presence at the net. Physical and aggressive, Kyra makes herself known in the offense for Hendrickson. She can absolutely bounce balls when given the chance, and if your block is not up, you better get out of the way. Kyra has been exactly what Hendrickson needs this season as a middle.
Jackie Onyechi – Junior – Foster
One thing that stands out about Jackie is her insane reach and verticle. She is lightyears above the block and can put the ball literally straight down. She has improved on getting faster in transition and is almost always an offensive option for Foster. She is averaging over 3 kills a set and is averaging a crazy .427 hitting percentage.
Taylor Williams – Junior – Langham Creek
Taylor Williams has really stepped up this season as a 6 rotation player for Langham Creek. She has a hard whip on the ball, and if the block is not up and pressed you are in trouble. She can rip the ball from the outside and plays great defense. She just recently posted 21 digs and 10 kills in a district game. If she keeps this up, Langham Creek could be in it for the long haul come playoff time.
Julia Hopkins – Junior – Round Rock Westwood
Julia Hopkins is having a great season for Round Rock Westwood. She already has 332 kills on the season. What I like about Julia is her ability to hit the ball in a variety of places. She swings anywhere, line, cross, sharp, or split. It’s very hard to defend her with her range of swings, and if you give her a split, she will make your backcourt pay.
Olivia Stringer – Senior – Brazoswood
Olivia Stringer just had the game of her life and recently posted 27 kills in Brazoswood’s game against Dickenson. She is playing aggressively as a senior and has really stepped up this season for her team. Not only is she a very good offensive threat, but a great blocker as well.
Kacey Kazmierski Kacey Kazmierski 6'0" | S Lake Travis | 2024 State TX – Junior – Lake Travis
If you haven’t seen Kacey play yet you are missing out. She came up huge in Lake Travis’s win over Dripping Springs with the game-winning block. Her precision with her setting is no joke either, and she has a great effective setter attack. She is definitely one to keep our eye on as she moves through this season.
