Continue ReadingWe waited until the end of the week to pump these rankings out and will keep that going for the remainder of the season. We deliberated on changing this to a South/Central rankings but decided on making that change next fall. Here is what we have for the third week in our attempt to highlight the southern part of the state.
1. Andale (26-0)
Another tournament championship for Andale was highlighted by two victories over Andover Central and one over Eisenhower. Hayden Grimes digging at over 4 per set.
2. Maize South (13-2)
A perfect September for the Mavericks and let us remind you they’ve only lost to one team this season. Camdyn Stucky Camdyn Stucky 6'1" | S Maize South | 2024 State #97 Nation KS is pacing the team with 244 assists.
3. Hutchinson (21-5)
Hutch dropped a few matches but we hold them at the three-slot. The Salthawks were dropped by perennial contender Lansing twice and Seaman in tournament play. Maliyah Johnson Maliyah Johnson 5'8" | OH Hutchinson | 2023 State KS is averaging over 4 kills and 3 digs per set.
4. Cheney (21-2)
Another string of victories included taking down Collegiate. Elina Bartlett is closing in on 500 assists on the season.
5. Andover Central (22-5)
We won’t hold the two losses to number 1 Andale but the losses to Newton dropped Central down to the fifth spot. Willow Deckinger Willow Deckinger 5'3" | DS/L Andover Central | 2024 State KS is just over 3 digs a set.
6. Circle (17-3)
The Thunderbirds hold strong at 6 after a couple of defeats this week. One to #1 Andale. The second to a 27-1 Nemaha Central team. Reagan Smith, the junior setter is closing in on 500 assists with 482.
7. Bishop Carroll (14-5)
We won’t hold the defeats Carroll took in their tournament. They were dropped by two of the top 6A teams in the Kansas City area in Blue Valley West and Blue Valley Northwest.
8. Eisenhower (19-7)
Losses to Andale and Andover Central were the only blemishes on their schedule last week and both are really good teams. Delainee Dexter Delainee Dexter 5'9" | S Eisenhower | 2025 State KS and Hayden Yuza are a strong tandem from the setter position running a 6-2.
9. Trinity Academy (16-2)
When your only two losses came last week and to #4 Cheney, you are still worthy of being in the Power 10 as a small school. Sarah Graham Sarah Graham 6'0" | OH Trinity Academy | 2023 State KS is averaging close to four and a half kills per set.
10. Sedgwick (28-0)
More love for the small schools with the undefeated Sedgwick Cardinals making a debut in the rankings.
