Continue ReadingThe dust has finally settled on an exciting day of volleyball yesterday. Nearly half of the teams in Indiana have had their seasons end, and it’s time to talk about the ones who march on. Class 2A has its fair share of solid volleyball matchups, but none feature two twenty-win programs with prospects this big (literally).
Tipton (23-8)
Despite a 3-1 loss to M-G earlier this fall, the Blue Devils have had one of those seasons that can be remembered as special. An opening round sweep of Blackford (16-16) got us here, with thoughts of revenge looming. That home loss in late August, though, might not tell the whole story of what’s to come tomorrow afternoon. Ashlee Schram Ashlee Schram 6'2" | MB Tipton | 2023 State IN (’23, 6-3 MB), known more for her basketball domination, recently became the first in school history to surpass 1000 career kills. Her 4k/.300+ attack line go well with her hundreds of career blocks she’s earned over the years. She’s complimented well by junior Keliah Smith (’24, 5-8 OH), who is a six-rotation primary-passing outside that can put balls away as well. The Blue Devils will need every one of her four digs per set if they want to pull of the upset tomorrow.
#10 Madison-Grant (25-5)
The tenth-ranked 2A squad in Indiana get to host this matchup, with the first being at Tipton. Although some in attendance might say that the match wasn’t as close as the score indicated, these are different teams now, and this is one-and-done season. Anything can happen. What’s going to happen, however, is that senior Alexis Baney Alexis Baney 5'10" | MB Madison-Grant | 2023 State IN (’23, 5-10 MB/OH) is going to get her 5+ kills per set while hitting nearly .400 in the process. She projects to be a pin attacker at the next level, but with her length and strength, she controls the middle defensively just fine. Libero Daya Greene (’23, 5-5 DS/L) and her five digs per set should keep the Argylls in plays regularly, and her serve receive will be key in this matchup.
