Althoff Catholic and Jefferson City are the only two teams to knock off the defending Class 3 champions. A big matchup with rival Helias looms, and Rock Bridge will be a monster test. Autumn Bax Autumn Bax 5'11" | RS Blair Oaks | 2024 State #188 Nation MO carries a big load with 285 kills, and Bailey Braun Bailey Braun 5'10" | OH Blair Oaks | 2024 State MO is next with 192. The Falcons are still the team to beat in Class 3.
2. California Pintos 20-1-1
Next in line is the Pintos from California, with the only loss coming to Blair Oaks in 4. Emma Whitson Emma Whitson 5'7" | S California | 2023 State MO and Ella Bailey Ella Bailey S California | 2024 State MO run the offense for this balanced attack, with five players over 100+ kills. The Pintos have run over every test they’ve been given, but a date with Helias will be a great indicator of where the Pintos stack up.
3. Ste. Genevieve Dragons 22-2-2
Just off a Perryville Tournament championship, the Dragons are on cruise control. With a big conference win over Farmington and Saxony Lutheran, the Dragons have moved up the rankings this week. The MAAA conference is coming up later this month. Maya Watts patrols the backcourt for the Dragons with 305 digs.
4. Lutheran St. Peters Cougars 13-8
The potential for this team is there to make a solid run come playoffs. Big wins over Pleasant Hill and Cor Jesu Academy highlight the season, and the Ozark Grand Slam is on the schedule in two weeks. Mattie Reynolds Mattie Reynolds 5'9" | OH Lutheran St. Charles | 2023 State MO is the hammer with 242 kills, and Kaitlyn Diani-O’Day Kaitlyn Diani-O’Day 5'8" | S Lutheran (St. Peters) | 2025 State MO sets her favorite target.
5. Pleasant Hill Chicks 12-6
This team is a conundrum to me at this point. A trip over to Saint Louis to knock off Cor Jesu 2-0 and St. Joseph’s Academy 2-1 but struggle against lower competition. Odessa is the last regular season game and will be a solid test before districts. Shannon Ruckman has 144 digs, and Ella Crain and Gabriela Hanes Gabriela Hanes S Pleasant Hill | 2024 State MO run the offense.
6. St Pius X (KC) Warriors 15-5
The Warriors have lost to quality teams and should only struggle against Platte County for the remainder of the season. Avery Ashby Avery Ashby 5'10" | OH St. Pius X | 2024 State MO and Lauren Fussell Lauren Fussell 5'10" | MB St Pius X | 2025 State MO do the damage in the front while Claire Mosh Claire Mosh 5'6" | DS/L St. Pius X | 2024 State MO takes care of the backcourt.
7. Odessa Bulldogs 17-5
With no losses to any team below Class 4, the Bulldogs still ranked in the top 10. A game with Harrisonville and Pleasant hill finishes off the regular season and a test for districts and state playoffs. Peyton Gross Peyton Gross 5'9" | OH Odessa | 2023 State MO leads the attack, and Caitlyn Sanders allows her team to score with 172 digs.
8. Cape Notre Dame 15-5-3
The Bulldogs have lost five on the season, but those are to quality teams and have taken care of everyone they should beat. Saxony Lutheran and Dexter are coming up with games that will give the Bulldogs a fight. Freshman stud Kate Rubel Kate Rubel 6'0" | MB Cape Notre Dame | 2026 State MO leads the offense with 163 kills, Anna Garner has the defense covered with 358 digs, and freshman Claudia Jones Claudia Jones 5'9" | S Cape Notre Dame | 2026 State MO leads in assists with 286.
9. Springfield Catholic Fighting Irish 12-7-4
Catholic gets the nod over Forsyth because of a 3-0 win, and Long Beach State recruit Grace O’Reilly Grace O’Reilly 6'0" | RS Springfield Catholic | 2023 State MO is carrying this team with 264 kills. I don’t see anyone in their district that can knock them off either.
10. Potosi Trojans 19-1-4
The Trojans don’t have an intense schedule, but they beat Rolla in the Rolla Tournament. Three MAAA games with Farmington, Ste. Genevieve and Park Hills Central can either push the Trojans higher in the rankings or knock them out. Pressure’s on for Potosi to cement themselves in the top 10 and prepare for districts and conference tournaments. Sophomore Ava Robart Ava Robart 5'11" | MB Potosi | 2025 State MO and Blair Sitton Blair Sitton 6'4" | MB Central Park Hills | 2025 State MO led the attack.
