The Girls Greater Catholic League is arguably the most competitive conference in the state and recent results indicate just how tough it is to win on any given night. With five teams in the league, any one of them is capable of defeating the others given the depth of talent among all positions across the conference. After a September slump that saw them lose six consecutive matches, Mount Notre Dame has come roaring back with some big time five-set wins over league leading Ursuline followed by a recent victory over current second place team St. Ursula. MND has some key players including senior Shaye Wolf Shaye Wolf 5'10" | DS/L MND | 2023 State OH who is leading them offensively at 3.8 kills per set. Her counterpart on the left side is freshman Cara Richter Cara Richter 6'0" | OH MND | 2026 State OH , playing like a veteran and seemingly getting more confident and finding greater success as the season moves forward. Audrey Armbruster Audrey Armbruster 5'11" | S MND | 2023 State OH delivers a good offense that also involves two very capable middles in junior Katie Noschang and senior Katie Wilking Katie Wilking 5'11" | MB MND | 2023 State OH , both of whom can defend well at the net from pin to pin. The Cougars are certainly sending a message that they are much improved in spite of their overall record (12-7) and have the pieces to compete with anyone. The other two teams, Mercy McAuley and Seton, recently squared off with Seton claiming a tight five-set win of their own while Ursuline, Ohio’s top-ranked Division I team, also recently swept two very good teams in #2 ranked Magnificat and #12 ranked Kings.
