Here at PrepDig, we are committed to covering and promoting as many prospects as possible, from the most popular names to the hidden gems that typically abound at the Lone Star State and during the high school season we’re also doing it by featuring the teams they play at.
Every time we’re at the gym, we take the time to give a good look at the teams on the court and we’ll try to feature as many as possible here in this space. The Foster Falcons from Richmond are our featured team today.
The Squad
The Falcons have an interesting core to work with in Jackie Onyechi, Brinleigh Davis Brinleigh Davis 5'9" | S Richmond Foster | 2024 TX and Brooke Barnes and still added a promising freshman in Emerson Lechler. Rebuilding a team after the graduation of important players such as Kamryn Williams, Elizabeth Waldrop and Eliana Zepeda is no easy task, for Foster is headed in the right direction.
Key Players
Jackie Onyechi
Jackie Onyechi
The physical middle blocker is probably the one player in Foster’s squad with the ability to take matches over at the top level. Her athleticismo is truly impressive, especially on offense, as she gets off the floor really well, has long arms and can hit the ball extremely hard. Onyechi can also hit from the right and she can be unstoppable from there at times. Her blocking is also a big asset as she uses her length, reading of the game and timing to shut opponents down.
A setter with good length and even better technical skills, Davis runs Foster’s offense extremely well. She’s very creative with her plays, yet extremely consistent with her locations and smart with her distribution. Also a good server, Davis hits when she’s at the net and gets to score quite a few points. She’s very aggressive on the court and is really good with her setter dumps.
Highlights
Brooke Barnes
Brooke Barnes
A long and powerful hitter, Barnes has been playing on the right for Foster, but she can be used as an outside hitter as well. The offense is the best part of her game as she uses her high contact point really well to overcome opposing blockers and score points. Barnes can hit different sets and is very prolific when tooling the block. She can also help the team with her passing and is a very solid blocker.
Bailey Lechler
Bailey Lechler
Also a standout softball student-athlete, Lechler adds some reliability and stability to Foster’s backcourt with her game. A lefty, she’s very efficient with her passing and thrives on defense because of her great positioning. She’s very quick to react and has excellent ball control, being able to keep it up in the air when not many others would.
Emerson Lechler
Emerson Lechler
The quick adaption of Bailey’s younger sister Emerson to the team was great news to Foster as her presence helped the team ease the absence of injured senior outside hitter Koryn Johnson. Lechler’s game is well-developed already, especially on offense, as she has the power to challenge big blocks but also the finesse to score in smarter ways. As with any freshman, her level of play fluctuates according to her confidence level, but it won’t take long for her to stabilize it.
