Continue ReadingSetters and their middles have to be on the same wavelength and borderline telepathic with one another. This is created a lot of repetition and a trust that both will do their job correctly. These duos become dynamic when they know exactly what the other will do in certain situation. They almost develop their own unwritten language.
This is created by many failed attempts and trial and error followed by effective communication. And when they click it’s magical! When a setter and middle connect, they give their team a huge advantage, especially in system. Here are a few combinations that you need to watch during playoffs!
Alexis Kammerer Alexis Kammerer S Brodhead | 2023 State WI –> Abbie Dix Abbie Dix 6'1" | MB Brodhead | 2023 State WI
Brodhead
Kammerer and Dix together generate a lot of fire and energy and they are super steady and efficient in their play. Kammerer just knows how to find Dix along the net even when she is pulled off or they are running a fast set into the gap. Dix is active and runs a number of routes to keep opponents on their toes. Both are uncommitted seniors so far.
Ava Dean Ava Dean 5'9" | S McFarland | 2024 State WI –> Gwen Crull Gwen Crull 6'2" | MB McFarland | 2023 State WI
McFarland
Crull has the ability to make most setters look good but Dean doesn’t need help with that, so they operate like a well-oiled machine. There is definitely a certain level of trust that has to occur for most middle attacks because the timing and placement are so crucial there is little room for error. When they click it is fire! Dean has another year left after this, but Crull will be heading to Bowling Green next fall.
Gabriella Pecore Gabriella Pecore 5'2" | S Unity | 2025 WI & Addison McElhone Addison McElhone 5'10" | S Unity | 2025 WI –> Sydney Smith Sydney Smith 6'0" | MB Unity | 2023 WI & Shelby Perron Shelby Perron 5'10" | MB Unity | 2023 WI
Unity
This group has been flying under the radar. Smith and Perron are in their Senior season and their connection with their sophomore seasons has proved crucial in their success this season. Smith is a smart attacker who knows right where to find the open floor and finds the sharp angles. Perron runs different tempos but works to be available in almost every transition with a fast arm swing. Both setters are athletic and know how to feed these hitters making this Unity squad tough to stop.
Mackenzie Scholz Mackenzie Scholz 5'9" | S Tomahawk | 2023 State WI –> Meghan Scholz Meghan Scholz 6'3" | MB Tomahawk | 2023 State WI
Tomahawk
These two have been a staple for Tomahawk over the past 4 years. With DePaul commit, Meghan Tomahawk has been hard to stop. Mackenzie has entered her senior season operating with the next level confidence and it makes her really fun to watch. Their connection is fluid and Mackenzie gives Meghan a lot of great options to work both angles. The Scholz twins are the X-Factor this season and lead the Hatchets to a Great Northern Conference title.
