Greenwood is on a run right now because of their tough road in district 14 where they beat top 25 ranked, South Warren, in the semifinals 19-17 fifth set. They were nothing but motivated to beat this district opponent who they’ve lost to all year, and yes, they may have took a loss to Bowling Green in the finals, but Greenwood will take that strong semis energy into region. With Aubrey Packer Aubrey Packer OH Greenwood | 2024 State KY taking the lead offensively and defensively, this team will definitely cause some problems for Logan County. Packer’s hitting numbers about double everyone else’s on the team with 364 kills and averaging 4.23 kills. Plus, she has the most digs with 207. Packer is just a baller and will be a fun one to see in region. Not to mention, you have Addi McEwing Addi McEwing 6'2" | MB Greenwood | 2024 State KY and Morgan Trevor also showing out with 149 and 157 kills. Then, setter, Sophia Watterson Sophia Watterson S Greenwood | 2023 State KY , is so good at doing her job because she finds a way to get the ball to Packer but also knows when to spread the offense out. 457 assists, 162 digs, and leading the team in service aces with 52, senior, Watterson, will help the team from every angle.
Moving on to Logan County, the team finished 29-8 on the season thus far and currently ranks second in the region. The Lady Cougars are coming off a district championship too where they beat Todd County Central in three straight sets. Just like Greenwood, they have a star hitter, and her name is Aubrey Sears. On the year, she has 306 kills and averages 4.08 kills a set. One thing about Sears is she’s swinging. It might be hard down the line, a sharp cut, or deep cross court, but she is going for the kill, and that’s what makes her so hard to defend. Also, Logan County has solid middles that can run a fast tempo which creates confusion for the opponent’s blockers. Whitney Christian Whitney Christian OH Logan County | 2024 State KY has 233 kills on the year, and Caroline Kailey closely follows with 223 kills. Their junior setter, Sloan Coursey Sloan Coursey 5'10" | S Logan County | 2024 State KY , does a great job running the quick offense with her hitters and taking care of the ball when necessary. Then, add in their stud senior libero, Haleigh Wood, and this squad is pretty tough to beat.
Overall, Logan County and Greenwood is a strong first round matchup and a game that everyone should take the time to go and see. It might be a left side vs left side match with the Aubrey’s at the helm, but whoever has the better serve and pass game will most likely take the win. I guess we will just see what happens Monday, shall we?
