Continue ReadingWe love to see players at schools in smaller divisions put up big numbers, there are great players in the 1B, 2B, and 1A levels throughout the state. Middles putting up huge blocks, and they might be a leader in digs playing all 6 rotations too! The best athletes may be staying on the court and being called upon to do a bit more than a school with more depth. That creates some great numbers, and we are checking on some of the best below.
If you have stats that are amazing for your players, at any classification in Washington, reach out with a message on Twitter!
The Republic Tigers are in good shape any time they get the ball to Short in the middle. But the blocks per set jump off the page at 1.6 per for the long and versatile senior. She will move around and attack from both pins and the middle, Tiger setters find her everywhere. It’s the shut down blocking that is so dominant, she has good timing and can shut down an entire opposing frontline.
Kaylee Wheeler
Kaylee Wheeler
Wheeler has been playing large for her size and her team, recording 27 kills vs Zillah and hitting .422 on the season. Playing middle and middle back, she takes excellent swings from the back row, the outside, and of course straight down the pipe. She’s bouncy and passes with a good platform, helping the Lightning to a 5-0 start to league play. Her athleticism is a difference maker in the 1A SCAC – West.
Ari Clarkson
Ari Clarkson
The serving for the 6-footer out from Dakine and Northwest High school has been amazing. A season high of 13 in one match, and serving aces at a 38% clip. That’s an unbelievable number, nearly 4 out of 10 serves have no play on them, a 0% success rate for the other team. It may only count for one point, but it’s a point that has no statistical chance to be scored by the opposing team. Even if a team somehow throws a free ball over, someone might net on the other team or just plain miss an easy pass. Aces- nada. There is way more to Clarkson’s game, of course, she is over 100 digs and 100 kills for the year, and she is a complete player.
Kyndall Koski
Kyndall Koski
Koski is a defensive wizard and is putting up some of the best dig numbers in the state. She also handles a high percentage of the back row on serve receive and has a season-high 41 chances in one match. She is averaging 6 digs a set, and that includes not always playing in some runaway sweeps against league opponents.
Jessie Reed
Jessie Reed
Digs- 2.6 per set, floor burns too many to count, aces, kills and the occasional accurate out-of-system set round out the senior’s impressive floor game. It’s the hustle and heart of a player coming off a major injury that you can’t accurately put a number on that truly moves the needle for her Nighthawk team. Oakesdale might lead the state in high fives too, Reed has to be near the top in that category!
Macy Gines
Macy Gines
In one match, Gines posted a 17 dig, 53 assist line. Wilbur-Creston Keller did not go down easy, Mary Walker took the win in 5, and they needed all of the senior setters contributions. The Chargers out of Springdale have an impressive 14-2 record on the year, and Gines leads the team in aces, and sits second in digs as well. She is sneaky quick and has great location, allowing her attackers to continue racking up the kills.
Alexia Bradley
Alexia Bradley
Bradley has season highs of 11 blocks, 17 kills, and 5 aces. Ocasta has help for her along the front line, with size across the court, so it’s not just a one-person show. The Wildcats have a small, younger team, and rely on the 6’2 junior for game-turning plays. This year Bradley has seen a marked increase in her hitting percentage, while continuing to increase her aces and blocks per set.
Other players are putting up huge numbers, they can’t all be listed here and for many teams in the state, statistics are not easily available. Whether its a high school sports-based website, the schools own website, or the site provided by the league that a team plays in, it would be a step forward for the sport to celebrate statistical excellence for its athletes at the same level of sports like Basketball, Softball, Football, etc. always have.
A special mention to a few more small school dominators who may have already been covered recently and are piling up the numbers.
