Tournament Champions Part 5
Hermann Bearcats
The Bearcats would roll through the Hermann Tournament pool play last Thursday with sweeps of Lutheran North, Gateway Legacy, and Washington in Tuesday night’s pool play. They would return on Monday and sweep New Haven and then knock off Washington 25-27, 25-19, 25-21 to win the home tournament for the first time since 2016. Holly Heldt Holly Heldt 5'10" | MB Hermann | 2023 State MO would finish the match with 20 kills, and in 2024 Jill Rood would add 12 kills to give the hometown Bearcats the title.
Liberty North Eagles
Liberty North would go into the Blue Springs South Tournament and make a massive statement by winning the title, only dropping 1 set. The Eagles would knock off Grain Valley 25-14, 25-16, Park Hill 25-17, 25-22, St. Dominic 25-19, 25-18, St. Teresa’s Academy 25-21, 25-22, Fayetteville, AR 25-18, 24-26, 25-20 and then in the finals take out St. Thomas Aquinas, KS 26-24, 25-19. Carlie Cisneros Carlie Cisneros 6'0" | OH Liberty North | 2024 State #7 Nation MO would finish with 13 kills, and Emma Christian Emma Christian 5'8" | S Liberty North | 2025 State MO would dish out 16 assists for the win.
California Pintos
Having swept their way through the Warrensburg Tournament until the finals, when they would beat Warrensburg 31-29, 24-26, 25-18, which would be the only set they would lose on the weekend. Pool play wins over Lafayette County, Sacred Heart, and Pleasant Hill, and they would dispatch Santa Fe in the semifinals 25-23, 25-20 before battling with Warrensburg in the finals. Lauren Friedrich and Isabella Kincaid Isabella Kincaid 5'8" | OH California | 2024 State MO would lead the Pintos offense throughout the tournament.
Ste. Genevieve Dragons
The Dragons would roll through the Perryville Tournament, not having dropped a set all day. Pool play victims would be Advance, Scott City, and Desoto. Ste. Gen would beat Fredericktown 25-20, 25-20, Saxony Lutheran 25-23, 25-21, and then the home team Perryville in the finals 25-22, 25-21. Big plays from Dru Koetting and Maya Watts would provide the offense and defense to help gain the title.
Liberty Mountain View Eagles
Liberty would come out of the Mt. Vernon with a tournament championship having to escape Clever 25-20, 23-25, 25-18 before knocking down Branson in the finals.
Odessa Bulldogs
Redemption against Belton was on the Bulldog’s mind going into the finals of the Grandview Tournament. A 25-22, 25-22 win over the Pirates was a perfect ending for the Bulldogs. With wins earlier in the day over Raytown, Grandview, Raymore-Peculiar would give a rematch against the team that’s handed the Bulldogs two of the four losses on the season. This time Lexi Adamec Lexi Adamec MB Odessa | 2023 State MO , Rylee Adams Rylee Adams 5'8" | OH Odessa | 2025 State MO , and Lilly Malizzi would help the Bulldogs with the win over Belton in the finals.
Tournament Champions Part 4
Winona Wildcats
They went undefeated in the Gideon Tournament, beating Hayti, Charleston, and Holcomb in pool play. The Wildcats would knock off Southland in the quarterfinals, Clarkton 2-1 in the semifinals, and then Gideon for the title 25-21, 25-13.
Taylor Osborne, Nevaeh Malawey Nevaeh Malawey 5'8" | RS Winona | 2023 State MO , and Bailee Luttrell would carry the team to the title.
Glendale Falcons
The Falcons would take the Strafford Tournament title with wins over El Dorado Springs, East Newton, and Clever in 2-0 wins, split with Timberland and take out Strafford in the title game 25-12, 25-23. Libby Allen, Kaitlyn Brady, and Tatum Kuntz Tatum Kuntz 5'4" | DS/L Glendale | 2024 State MO had a big weekend for the Falcons.
Webb City Cardinals
Undefeated on the day at 7-0, the Cardinals would beat McDonald County, Siloam Springs, AR, Central, Rogers Heritage, AR, Nevada, Harrisonville, and then Carl Junction in the finals 25-19, 25-17. The Cardinals would receive big performances in tournament play for Brenda Lawrence and Kate Brownfield.
Eureka Wildcats
A repeat performance at the Gateway Matchup with wins over Pattonville, Rosati-Kain, Kirkwood, Incarnate Word, Webster Groves, Howell, and then beat Marquette in the finals 25-13, 25-18. Mia Berg Mia Berg 6'1" | OH Eureka | 2023 State MO and Olivia Hasbrook Olivia Hasbrook 5'9" | DS/L Eureka | 2024 State #56 Nation MO would help the Wildcats repeat.
Tournament Champions Part 3
Fair Grove
Buffalo Tournament Champs beat Stockton, Conway, Hallsville, Bolivar, Ash Grove, and then Conway in the finals 25-20, 25-20. Atleigh Lark Atleigh Lark DS/L Lesterville | 2023 State MO and Allison Findley Allison Findley 5'7" | OH Fair Grove | 2024 State MO would be the standouts in the finals for the Eagles.
Potosi Trojans
Cuba Tournament Champions beat Herculaneum 25-21, 27-25, Steelville 25-20, 24-26, Cuba 27-26, 25-14 in pool play. Potosi would then beat Warrenton 25-11, 25-12 in the semifinals and Union 25-15, 25-13 to win the championship and remain undefeated in the year.
Salem Tigers
Cabool Tournament Champs were undefeated on the day. Avery Erway had a big weekend at the net, and Kylee Shalbot would patrol the defense.
Kickapoo Chiefs
The chiefs would knock off rival Ozark to win the title of the Springfield Classic 25-23, 11-25, 25-22. Kickapoo would run the table in pool play sweeping Rogersville, Carl Junction, Forth Smith Southside, AR, and Ozark.
Tournament Champions Part 2
Jefferson Blue Jays
Win the Seckman Tournament over the weekend by knocking off the host 26-24, 25-23. In pool play, Jefferson would beat DuBourg 2-0, Fox 2-0, and Perryville 2-0. St. Vincent would be the next victim in a 2-0 win in the quarterfinals of tournament play. The semifinals were a pool play rematch with Perryville, and Jefferson would take the win 2-1 and proceed to beat Seckman for the title. Kirstyn Loyd Kirstyn Loyd 5'11" | OH Jefferson | 2023 State MO would represent Jefferson on the All-Tournament Team.
East Buchanan Bulldogs
The Bulldogs would run the table at the Lathrop Tournament, going 5-0. Maya Watkins Maya Watkins 5'10" | OH East Buchanan | 2023 State MO led the way with eight kills in the championship.
Platte County
Winnetonka Tournament Champions would sweep everyone and move to 16-6 on the season. With wins over Oak Park, Maryville, Fort Osage, Lawson, Pembroke Hill, and St. Pius X 25-20, 25-19 in the championship. Tatianna Murray would put down eight kills, and Madison Hoyt had six blocks for the win.
Bishop LeBlond
Winners of the Chillicothe Tournament by beating the host Chillicothe 25-16, 19-25, 25-20. Sadie Ward Sadie Ward 5'6" | OH Bishop LeBlond | 2023 State MO and 2026 Rilyn Conard would finish eight kills in the championship match.
Francis Howell
Won the St. Joseph’s Academy Tournament with wins over Lutheran St. Charles, Cor Jesu, Pleasant Hill, and St. Joseph’s Academy in 2-0 sweeps and then finished the tournament knocking off Visitation Academy 24-26, 25-13, 25-21.
Blair Oaks Falcons
The Falcons won the West Plains Tournament with an undefeated pool play record. Beat Rolla in the finals 25-19, 25-14.
California Pintos
Going undefeated in the Fulton Tournament, the Pintos won the championship over Eldon 2-0 and improved on the year to 9-0-1.
Forsyth Panters
The Panthers would win the home tournament going undefeated and winning the championship over Clever 25-27, 25-23, and 25-18. Savannah Koen Savannah Koen 5'9" | OH Forsyth | 2024 State MO would knock down 18 kills in the final.
Tournament Champions Part 1
Pattonville Pirates
Kylie Surratt Kylie Surratt 6'0" | RS Pattonville | 2024 State MO and Reagan Nelson Reagan Nelson 6'0" | OH Pattonville | 2025 State #107 Nation MO would be named All-Tournament Team, and Surratt took the MVP award while the Pirates would take the title at the Pattonville Tournament.
Parkway West Longhorns
Parkway West surprised me, but with the program’s history, it shouldn’t. The Longhorns marched into the Borgia Tournament and won the Blue Pool 4-2 record. Parkway West would knock off Francis Howell Central in the semifinals and then defending Class 4 state champion Westminister in the finals.
Pacific Indians
Winners of the St Charles West title over Fort Zumwalt South 2-0. The Indians would run through the tournament, not dropping a set.
Saxony Lutheran Crusaders
From our conversations throughout the two-day 62-team tournament, Saxony wasn’t mentioned to be a contender. People took notice once they knocked off Class 2 favorite Jefferson in 2. Saxony would beat Farmington in 2 to win their 1st title at Dig for Life.
Lebanon Yellowjackets
The Yellowjackets returned from a 5-point deficit to take the title at the Hillcrest Tournament. Lebanon would beat Republic and Glendale in pool play, knock off Camdenton in the semifinals in 3 and then win the finals over Webb City in dramatic fashion in 2 and improve to 8-2-5.
Windsor Owls
Two tournaments and two titles for the Owls as they won the North County tournament going undefeated and improving to 12-1 on the season. Photo credit Stephanie Williams.
Westminster Christian Wildcats
The Visitation Champions went 6-0 in pool play knocking off Ladue, Francis Howell North, and Lindbergh. In the semifinals, they would knock off a tough Helias team 2-1, and the championship was a 2-0 sweep of Francis Howell Central. Emma Fairchild Emma Fairchild 5'10" | OH Westminster Christian | 2023 State MO would lead the team with 29 kills.
St. Pius X Lancers
St. Pius would start the year off by winning the MICDS Tournament going 6-0 in pool play with wins over Rosati-Kain, Duchesne, and Centralia, IL. The Semifinal match would go to the Lancers with a 2-1 win over Farmington, and the championship was a sweep of Althoff Catholic, IL. Hannah Leftridge Hannah Leftridge 5'10" | OH St. Pius X (Festus) | 2025 State MO , Bennett Raterman Bennett Raterman 6'4" | MB St. Pius X (Festus) | 2026 State MO , and Elena Ruble Elena Ruble 5'7" | S St. Pius X (Festus) | 2026 State MO were named to the All-Tournament Team.
Windsor Owls
Lexi Menne Lexi Menne 5'4" | OH Windsor | 2023 State MO , Katie Moore Katie Moore 5'1" | DS/L Windsor | 2024 State MO , and Madison Williams Madison Williams 5'6" | S WINDSOR IMPERIAL Mo | 2023 State MO would make the All-Tournament team. Winning the home tournament is always special, and the Owls did it by going 6-0 in pool play with wins over Mehlville, DeSoto, and Affton. In the semifinals, they would knock off Class 2 power Hermann 2-0 and take a 2-1 win over Clayton in the championship.
